Due to limited interest in the MTA February 7th Fur Auction at Montgomery City, we are cancelling this auction. The February 21st Fur Auction at Montgomery City is still scheduled. Rick Friedrich will be contacting the handful of folks who requested lot numbers for the 2/7 auction. If you are interested in a lot number for the 2/21 fur auction contact Rick ASAP.

Means the market is rough, nobody wants to sell at these prices.
Thanks to Dale Verts the trappers in Missouri are no longer forced to sell for a loss! Dale should be inducted into the Hall of Fame for accomplishing something this important to trappers in this state. No other MTA member in the last 20 years has done as much for Missouri trappers. No one!

Look, I really need to explain this one more time.
First off, I'm not a big fan of "awards". A lot of it is just buddies givin' them to each other to make them feel good. I'll never except a nomination. Thanks anyway. I appreciate the sentiment.
No one in the MTA brass can understand how I could say I supported the group (and I did, and still do, to a degree) yet fight them. It's because I just never was a "yes" man, and I was all the time pissin' Doren, Robbie, Rick etc. off. I was the Black Sheep because I couldn't fall in-line with the MTA way of thinkin'. From the Fur Sale Date to the Website to Membership issues to whatever. The last five times I saw Doren we got in a shoutin' match. Lotsa fun, believe me.
I was also ostracized for my continuing public discussions about MTA business here on Trapboard. I LIKE free speech, myself.
I've seen coercion and mismanagement that I've never told anyone about. I've also seen HUGE improvements in the last year (like the website and taking of Credit Cards for memberships that was one of Doren's contentions with me because it was "too hard" to do, sigh).
We did (and District 6 continues to do) more activities than any other District. But we never heard ONE WORD of praise from the MTA. If anything, we heard the opposite (quote- "clinics aren't everything") and I sure as heck didn't receive any nominations, because all the while we were doin' stuff as District 6 I was busy pissin' Doren and Rick and Robbie, etc. etc. off. I'm a trouble-maker.
Oh well. Forget the nominations, please. Awards and me just don't fit together, and the sentiment is wrong on this one anyhow. Sigh.

You done what was right for the trappers in Missouri. Maybe someday Rick, Robbie and Doren can do something as beneficial as well.

So who are the buyers at the MTA Auction? Are they local buyers within the state of Missouri?

There are usually several MO buyers, I know a couple comes from IA, and usually one from KS.

It's a shame. But these auctions are not cheap to run, and you really need a full house selling fur to open the doors. It does seem a little early to cancel, but then again they probably have to get out of their commitment to the rental of the facility.
Just a few years ago the MTA held three good auctions annually. Sometimes GREAT auctions. And with crappy fur prices, too. Things are changin', and not for the better, I'm afraid.

Dale, Been a lot of contributing factors leading to this. Anytime an association quits acting on behalf of its members it is to be expected.
Could make a list, just not worth the trouble.

BS Robert. Plain and simple the fur prices are the contributing factor. Whether it be the buyers not wanting to attend as many have cut back their buying or many trappers selling early due to falling prices.
For you to come on that the MTA isn't looking after it's members is simply your opinion plain and simple. As a life member,I'd think you would want to contribute instead of nay saying anything about the association.

BigJohn, The MTA opposed abolishing the mandatory sale date. The MTA did not support the MN effort. The MTA continues to oppose lengthening the season despite Berringer reporting a majority of trappers support this.
These are facts.
