Dale, You any good at butchering hogs. Last time I took a friend with me, we gave away 3 big boars one night and still butchered and boned out 13 hhead that night / morning. Think he got burnt out pretty quick on skinning hogs One of my more memorable trips having a friend along to experience what I do.

I've done my share, but I hate hogs. It's one of the few things I have professionally processed when we raise our own. Never butchered a feral pig. I guess I could do a few for YOU, however.

At least we all agree the MTA doesn't represent trappers on extending the trapping season and the MDC needs to poll trappers to get a realistic consensus.

Minnesota trappers associations winter meeting is today. Buyers come to this meeting to buy fur from trappers. 3 buyers, $9 top on green coons.

I agree with that premise. Streamlining seasons makes sense, but it also makes sense when asking the MDC to work with us. They like "easy". I'd still like, just one time, to catch some March 1st 'cats. Oh my. D.W. Verts- Bigfoot Trapper I will ask my Cajun friend if I can bring a shy , short funny guy that want to catch a March lst kitty cat, La season runs till Mar 31

I'm going to give another possible reason there was less interest in the first auction. In years past the deadline for a lot number was just a couple weeks before the sale, this year it was Jan. 1st. I was one that never requested a number before January and did not realize the change until recently. Just to be clear I was not planning on selling at the auction this year but if I had been I still would have missed that deadline and I bet there were a few out there that did also. I don't disagree with the deadline change either, I think the earlier you know how many are attenting the better you can plan. I know the market has a lot to do with it also but this change probably cost a few too. I remember walking in the door, I think in 2010, in Columbia in a down market and getting #30. Last year you couldn't have gotten #100 just showing up. Oh and by the way, I averaged $17.77 on the 110 coons I brought to that auction.

Green coon averaged $6.69 That sorta puts things down here in perspective! That's more than I expected they'd bring. I know a buyer in AR who is buying all the coon he wants. Paying $2 for XXX and $1 for xx and x and nothing for L and below. He has everybody in the country, even AR buyers and a few southern MO buyers knocking on his door. How many years do you think this will last? I'm guessing 2 0r 3 but the experts are saying at least four. Guess time will tell. Thanks for your post, robertw!

Silver fox, You asked, I'm not afraid of having stones throwen at me.
Two possibilities.
#1) how many years will it take Russia to diversify enough for their economy to recover with out international oil sales...figure 5-6 years.
#2) War breaks out in the middle east and it is significant enough to drive up oil prices so Russia can recover economically. Figure 3 years to recovery best case scenario.
China, figure 2 more years of continued austerity measures at best with high import duties / taxes.
In my opinion, this situation is a game changer.

Silver fox, I'm told there were 12 buyers at this sale. I am also told that fur sold stronger than it should have. Some ego's got involved to the "benefit" of the trappers.

Yep, the buyers used to get into big time pissin contests and lost money or broke even on their furs. this time, they did it at a much lower level! haha You know what you are talking about robertw!

Right now using todays figures coons are worth 50% of what they were worth in 99 & 2000 when the market crashed.
