I'm actually surprised at the numbers of new trappers even with the almost non existent market.
ADC jobs still coming in, mostly otter, since it's breeding season. Landowners getting out in the snow see the sign and suddenly have a problem lol.
An other couple of weeks the beaver will really get moving but landowners won't realize that problem until next fall when they start cutting trees again.

John, I’m kinda glad to see new trappers on board no matter of the fur pice. That means the tradition is getting past down, somehow. Just as long as the ethics of trapping is getting past down as well.

Rod, the only down side of it's been some of the pictures posted on social media. People have to be mindful of what can be used against trapping.

There is a hunter and trapper for every anti hunter and anti trapper. The other 90% of people are non hunters and non trappers. What they see and hear eventually affects their views and opinions. Everyone needs to keep that in mind.

Surprised at the bear harvest also. It was still green out there and you would really have to have one spotted. I suppose they will get out of hand as man continues to invade their habitat. Old timers did not still hunt bear. They used hounds that ranged many miles before treed. Most of the stuff on fecebook is just dumb. These newbies do stupid stuff and take a picture of it and post. If you try to give them advice then the trolls jump in. I have said it before and will say it again "The Conservation Department needs us and we need them to keep trapping alive".

Social media does more harm then good in most cases. If the student is only taught a portion of the game then that is the only thing they know. A student is only as good as the teacher.

A few years ago when I was buying lots of furs and whole animals, I had a lot of whole frozen coons so I filled my canoe with them and kept them in the shade for a few weeks til I had time to skin them. My ornery wife posted a pic on facebook and called it Marc's Coonoe! She had lots of negative feedback and I was very proud of her reaction, She explained the reasons for hunting and trapping and its important role in removing the surplus animals from the populations. She won!! Nonhunters/trappers understood and the anti's learned something. Pic was taken 11 years ago. Can't figure out how to post it.
