Perfect MTA material. Unyielding. My way or the highway. Got it all in (your) perspective. A real Company man. You'll go far; I see you as MTA President, after Robbie and Clay are done. PERFECT demeanor for the job.
Take a poll.

Ha Ha,not likely. I only promised to do this for one term. I think it should be passed around to other members.
Any opinion I post is strictly my own.
Some of us don't have to resort to calling names and frankly,I could care less of what others think of me. I have confidence in my abilities and realize my shortcomings. If you think I come off as course, well don't expexct me to change for you or anyone else.Merle Haggard's "The way I am" would certainly apply to me lol.
I assume you know how to use the ignore feature of this site,so feel free to use it. Won't be my lose or yours, just agreeing to disagree.

Mike,if those creeks in the high prairie find there way to that basin, then they have otter. You just need to learn how to catch them. Otter are showing up more and more in Nebraska and Kansas also.If waters flow from one drainage with otter, then they find their ways into the other drainages. Even with our large numbers of otters here,I've yet to have an incidental catch of them or muskrats during spring beaver season.Simple matter of setting my triggers together and tight to the side.Footholds get set a foot deep for backfoot catches. I have posted an interesting fact several times and nobody questioned it. Years ago, we went down to the river to trap a resort place that was full of ponds. We were there to catch beaver. It was January and we were trapping and catching otters. Caught them in 330s on beaver runs. Called the CA and he confiscated them. We caught like half a dozen. Then he told us that next year was open season. We quit calling the CA......Does anybody remember when the otter first come around and the season was closed?. If there were otter up on these little creeks then they would get caught in my coon-mink-muskrat-beaver sets. Also there would be murdered fish laying around. I found a hole on the Grand and there was dead chewed fish all over the place and a slide. It was 50 miles from my house and 3 miles from "coonduster" so I told him about it. By the time he got traps set the otter had moved on.

Nobody will pay attention to this, but... What ya'll have to understand is that I'm broke down, and will be for months to come. It makes me pissy, and stuff I generally just blow off (and have for along time) now I'm letting out. Especially when folks are demeaning and being know-it-all blowhards. Wish I could be at the Rendezvous. I have a whole bucket of crap I'd like to toss out, and doing it on the the internet won't be as effective at getting my point across. Of course, I'd probably have to re-join the MTA too...
I didn't start it. Telling me (us) that we don't know what we're talking about, and not just on the otter subject either. Snide comments about my trapping ability (apparently I'm not very good as I've never caught 21 bobcat in a season like you guys do). Not very good at all. Stuff that the internet just makes worse because comments may or may not be inferred jibes. That's why I just say what I think. You're being an ass. Take a poll.
It's about the same as the issues that made us kill the moderator deal last year, and why I quit being a mod. Too many opinions that are NOT for the good of all. The iron-fist of "my way or the highway". It's why we started our own little site where we generally have zero issues. We have fun (like we used to do here).
It is what it is. But calling folks liars, misinformed or whatever is NOT cool. It's like an unwritten rule here that if you think it's B.S., leave it alone. Same with numbers. Back in the day that this site started one thing Tony and I agreed on was this- if you talk numbers of animals and are an "experienced" trapper, that you'd be in for issues. Either you're bragging, or you don't catch enough to keep your status as Sens i. Dumb thing to do.
So finally, let's talk numbers since I was called on it... Last year I caught-
Coon-43 Grinners- 4 Red Fox- 0 Grey Fox-0 Coyote- 2 Bobcat- 0 Beaver- 0 Otter- 0 Muskrat- 0 Mink- 0 Mountain Lion- 0
And I'm pretty sure that those numbers will top what I can expect to catch this season by about 49 animals. Man, I need to learn how to do this trappin' gig. No wonder I'm pissy. Dale

Dale,if you think I'm attacking your ability to trap, well that's your problem.
When I asked which of those three senerios is it,I was seeking answers. If I lived in an area that had potential of catching 30 or whatever cats,I wouldn't target otter either. I don't hate water trapping but I'd rather stay dry. Many coon trappers run nothing but dogproofs,so they have zero chance catching otters. Most guys here that catch otter,do so as incidentals trapping coon with footholds. They aren't targeting them.
Poll? What part of other's opinion of me doesn't matter don't you understand?
Not sure where you get the part about me calling anyone a liar though. If you/they think something I said was calling you a liar, then again your/Their problem. If I'm going to call someone a liar.I have no problem telling them to their face.

Whats odd is that my trapping partner back then is my wifes brother. I didn't realize then that I would actually marry his sister. Neither of us knew that soon after that, he would wake up in bed dead. I miss him like a brother.

John, I HATE otters... Because I LOVED my smallmouth bass (and largemouth, spots, crappie, sunfish, suckers, etc. etc. etc. etc.). I'd trade those otter any day to bring back my creeks to where they were fifteen years ago. In a heartbeat. Otter are vermin, no different than coyotes. They need to be legal all year 'round with any method. If you don't think so, then you don't have them in your area yet. Or you're not a creek fisherman. Dale Sounds like you got some otter trapping hotspots Dale!! Do you catch a bunch?
I guess our opinions differ. Otter are my favorite critter to trap. 42 was my best year, but I spend way more time catching coon than I put into the otter. I stock borrow pits along the levees here with green sunfish so the otter will come to them. Works pretty good until it floods. They are a good time in my opinion.
Besides.........I've never sold a fish for $140!!!
otters have ben re enterduced into the wild just like wolves in yellowstone I"ts a part of eckosystem YA got to fit in.

Everytime I post on trapperman, I start a war or get ignored. Its like "you can say that even though its true". At least over here we know each other and can fight like cats and dogs and still be friends.(Somebody out there says"Speak for yourself-Ihate your guts"> LOL)

Shame to let this thread die. Thanks Krank! Throwing a rock at bald faced hornet nest always stirs up the crowd. About time to watch a few well-placed three pointers and eat elk cubes off my new homemade charcuterie board. It's party time in elk country!!

We’ll have to work around bear season now. I expected more to be harvested, especially in our Zone 2. I see deer cam pics of four or five together at deer feeders in this area but only three were harvested. Zone 1 had nine and don't think any were legally harvested in zone 3. They are super shy. Fed bear is a dead bear!!

Nobody is trapping anyhow. It's a shame. I'm gonna advertise bear nuisance trapping- I have lots of experience after my Bigfoot gig.
