Got out earlier this morning to see what the night brought. I'd dumped about 35 lbs. of beaver scrapings a couple days ago and the coyotes cleaned it up before morning. I'd bet I could have made 5 sets there yesterday and had at least 3 coyotes this morning .
I hung up 2 beaver carcasses in a plum thicket amonst the cedars to draw a cat or two. Once they work it I'll hand a cable or two to see if I can score.
Wasn't really too bad out there and I never did really feel cold even though the temp was around 2 or 3 above 0. Dry cold lol

Wish I could get out and do something! Been mostly stuck in the house the last two days. Storm is supposed to blow itself out before morning so then I can get out and move snow. It is a weird feeling - this is wide open country and I can usually see for miles. Visibility has been a quarter mile at most for two days. It ain't normal and I don't like it.

Wife thinks I'm crazy getting out in this kind of weather. Just go stir crazy if I don't.
Got my few beaver all put up and really don't know if I want to put up my otter or not.
Did drag out some deer and got it ground with spices ready to make some more jerky. Daughter in law out in NC whining about not getting any this year.

I had to do something so I set some CRs in the back forty fencerow. I dont need the fur but I would like to reduce the coyote population and maybe get lucky on a cat. I didnt catch anything yet and will knock them down tonight. It is powerful cold and I have been busy feeding extra and keeping the stock tank open. I put out a heat lamp for my dog. I dont know if he appreciates it but it makes me feel better. Calling for snow today.

Got out and checked my one otter set. Lots of deer and coyote tracks around thickets.
Gonna check the beaver carcasses I put out a couple days ago for activity and maybe set up for cats if any sign.

My road is zig zaged with yote tracks. Nice to see rabbit tracks in the yard. Its interesting to go for a hike in the snow and see all the activity out there. Lots of surprises tracked in the snow. Homey wont be hiking today maybe later.

Suppose to have warm up today,12 degrees lol Got an inch of snow yesterday evening.
Buddy called while I was out yesterday asking if I was up for a road trip. He was doing some trading with Clay Creech on some beaver traps. Drove over to his place and headed north.
Got to Clay's lane and there was just enough plowed to get through. Just before the yard there's Clay and Tony Oden digging out one of Clay's trucks. 4 wheel drive wouldn't work in his truck and had to drag his truck out of the way. The battery had died in his other truck hence the reason Tony showed to help him.
By the way no cats working baits but did cut a couples tracks not far from there.

That lane to Clay's place has got to be all of a half mile. Keeping it open in this weather has got to be a real beech.

Yeah Clay needs to get some snow fence up lol. His lane is only wide enough for one vehicle to get down at a time. Now it's even narrow.

Talked to him again today and he was drifted in. Had a fella with a skid loader headed his way to dig him out.

Yeah, BE CAREFUL. Went outside a few minutes ago and it looks fine but there's a thin layer of ice on everything.

My boss called me at 5:45am and told me I was a fool to try to get to work. I figured I would make the best of things so I blued some gun parts on the kitchen table while my wife was asleep.

Every hollar and creek were full of coon and possum tracks this morning. Warm up will have them all moving now.
Killed a coon yesterday on the creek ice that was nasty sick. I'm sure it had distemper. Today saw an eagle feeding on one on the same creek.

I saw where a coon come out of a den tree and got a drink and took a dump and went right back up the den tree. This was when it was sub zero.

2 cat sets and 1 otter set out and all traps were full. 2 coon and a possum lol. Went ahead and pulled the cat sets as the coon and possum wouldn't leave them alone now. Coon were all rubbed and looked to have been fighting. Both boars.
Roads are going to hell with all this moisture. Gonna be pretty muddy for a few days and creeks are starting to flow.
Slowly getting otter put up and man do those things stink. I think I'd rather smell a skunk than otter.

Our road is pure slop. My mother-in-law used to say that freeze and thaw makes the worst mud. She was a dairy farmer. Rain on the way.
