I dunno but it gets rid of that dirty snow and dillutes the salt. I found a good trapping spot. Owned by corporate farmers who would allow me to trap. They bulldozed 300 acres of timber a few years ago. We predator called the huge brush piles. Now the tiny creek up the middle is grown up in willow. During deer season I found mink sign there. Thinking about getting up and hour early and checking sets and maybe make $9.

Picked up an otter today in my only set I've got out. 9 day schedule and she was right on time. Was surprised it was a female as only one scent marker was left the last time she was through. She had 4 embryos the size of peanuts.

Weather is not showing any precipitation in the near future. I would like to see the slop go away. I have been refraining from driving on the dirt but things are stacking up.

Sun finally out and is warming right up. Loaded up some traps and headed out to set for beaver and otter. Water was still too high in most places so I only got a couple of sets in.

Picked up one beaver yesterday and after skinning I took the carcass to an area I've caught cats before. Checked on it today and the coons had completely stripped the carcass clean. Area around it was tracked up with fresh coon tracks, the very reason I don't have any active cat sets out.
Also driving down there, I spied an armadillo digging along the road. I tried to wack it with my tator rack but wasn't fast enough. We sure don't need them dang things.

All the meat eaters love beaver. A possum will lay there forever and nothing but birds eat a coyote I was squirrel hunting last week and for some reason, there was 5 armadillos out there. I had a muzzle loader so I drilled the first one and reloaded and got a second one before they were gone. No squirrels but I had a gun to clean when I got home. Armored possums look slow but they have a high speed option. I have seen them hop like a kangaroo and screech loudly.

They claim the road killed armadillos aren't actually run over by a tire. As a vechicle passes over them they jump up from fright and hitting the undercarrage is what kills them.
krank, I've had coyotes eat coyote carcasses when the temps get like a couple of weeks ago for extended periods of time. Now otter will only be eaten by crows and birds of prey, especially eagles. I don't know if those birds can actually taste anything or not.

Sarge had a story of an armadillo breaking his gastank on the van while transporting prisoners.

Put out the two beaver carcasses I skinned yesterday in a wood line along a corn field. This morning they were gone and the area was tore all to heck where the coyotes dragged and fed on the beaver. Only thing left was a beaver back foot.
The 2 beaver I caught today were deposited in the same place and I imagine they too will be gone tomorrow.

Wow, I had forgotten I posted that story. I was the one who had to write a report to the Warden. Luckly, the Warden wasn't an armadillo expert and bought off on what happened. I had no idea one could bust open a plastic gas tank.
