I see Guy is asking trappers in Mo. where they would like them to run routes. Also wanted to know if ,instead of running the routes just once at the end of the season, they would also like them to run one before Christmas. Claims to have a demand for coon, beaver, muskrat, and otter with orders to fill. Said coyotes remain in demand with commercial cats somewhat.

I sold them green fur last year. Beaver avg 7 Coon avg 7.60 Otter avg 27.50
Offered my finished yotes and the top was 30. I pulled all them back and averaged 57 at NAFA. Of course I sent my cats to NAFA and they are getting worn out being bought back.
They spoke of this at nationals and said they have a market. wanting lots of coon green as they can process cheaper than paying for finished. My average was higher than most auctioned coon!!
Take that for what it's worth. Anyone want to join forces to find a meat market for coon?

One of my trappers sells 150 to a guy in south MO that end up in Memphis. He gets $5 and I am sure his buyer gets lots more. Coon is good food! One trapper sells his coons and possums in St. Louis. I am sure it would be possible to find an outlet for the carcasses in the $4 -$7 range. I don't mess with it due to the added clutter but it is a great way to make another $1000 if you have the freezer space. Fill us in on what you find out.

While I could double my coon income and I wouldn't mind selling a few, I was more being sarcastic! Not enough freezer space and I would have no idea where to start marketing them..........safely anyhow!

We used to sell coon to some people in KC but they have since passed on. My brother in law used to skin coon if he could have the carcass. So there is a big demand for a fur buyer in western Mo since Keller passed. Theres the guy in Weabeleu .
Nafa (stan) hits Nevada and Harrisonville.

One of the things facing folks that trap is finding a buyer nowadays. We've lost most all our country buyers and with fur prices being low, it's not always cost effective to travel very far to sell.
I believe NAFA has shown their true colors as far as wild fur is concerned. Wild fur makes up a small part of the fur market. NAFA caters more to the fur ranchers. Furharveters doesn't seem much better.
The Mo. auction has always out preformed the other surrounding states auctions and is another option. Unlike the auction houses, you can nosale your fur giving you more control.

If groneswald is paying decent and coming to Missouri then that's incentive. Last couple years I have not been targeting coon but I could mop up if there was a buyer.

They are batting around the idea of as far south as maybe Springfield.

Based on participation in the MTA and this forum, he won't gain much by visiting the SW part of the state. Our coons run small too, when we had a local buyer he said 90% of the coon were <31". I probably wouldn't haul to Springfield at current prices, but if he is running down I49 and across I44 to get there he could stop near that junction and be in the same general location as NAFA's pickup in Carthage. If he ran a week ahead of Stan, trappers could try him and if not satisfied still make the NAFA lottery. I like that Guy actually buys the fur and that you can take your fur away if you don't like his grade. His biggest problem would be getting the news and schedule out to the trappers that don't use the internet.

IDK Trevis, news of where one can sale fur travels pretty quick. Most all the trappers I know share buyers numbers and information.

John, that's just it. All the trappers you know. In all of District 5, I have only met 10-12 trappers at MTA meetings and such (maybe only 4 that were MTA members), 3-4 met at furbuyer's - and of those I actually know three, two of whom I see once or twice a year; yet the MTA shows several members in this county and several dozen in the District. Long story short, these dozens of guys ain't going to tell me and I ain't going to tell them simply because we have never met. They ain't going to hear it from the furbuyer either. News paper ads probably won't reach them because that was tried for at least one meeting with almost zero results. Back in the '80s when we had a dozen local buyers, I knew a lot more trappers and at that time fur news did travel fast.
John, change speed for a moment, does the MTA sale have any consignment program where a trapper can ship his goods to sold or does it all have to be in person?

Gronewald has posted their fur stops for Mo. Looks like they listen to folks and added a lot more stops.

Are those buying stops as in the past or the new dry fur pickup to be graded later and an offer made while he has possession?

These are new routes where they will be buying. Get your price then ,get your check then, and actually be able to cash said check.

They posted they are going to be in Licking, MO. I have family in the Houston area so I might go see them unless Marc is willing to buy... I only bought around 1100 coons last part of season and sold to Groenwald for about .50 profit which was great! I will probably meet him with all my beavers, coons, and whatever else I have that no one else wants. It is a blessing that Groenwald is filling in the NAFA void. I am encouraging most AR and Southern MO trappers to look up Groenwald's routes and sell to them or if nicer northern furs, I give them Peterman's number. Peterman is only buyer I am aware of within 2-3 hours from here. \
