Date- December 26-29 2015
Location- Dubbert Auction Center 34947 Marriott Ave. Fortuna MO 65034
Eligibility- Trappers who want to learn to better their skills and increase their enjoyment of the game. While any skill level will be accepted, we really want newer trappers with just a few seasons, or less, under their belts. Make sense?
Cost- 10 dollars per day to all students who are members of the Fur Takers of America,(if you are not a member of the FTA, your membership and dues will be accepted on-location with prior agreement to do so). Meals will be provided, as will sleeping facilities. Students will NOT be roughing it much at all.
Itinerary- Classroom discussion and lessons, ethics, trap modification, cable restraints, species-specific discussions, and live on-the-line training for both land and water animals, including trap setting (by students with current MO trapping permits), dispatches, skinning, fleshing and fur-handling demos every evening. Other stuff will be added as we think this thing through.
Help needed- Instructors with an ability to speak clearly and concisely to students, and with a well-rounded knowledge of trapping. Strong ethics a must. And no, we're not payin'.
Everyone can help pitch-in with the cooking and "camp" duties, right?
We do reserve the right to refuse any student, based on our stipulations above. This event is by invitation only.
That's a start. We'll do our best to answer questions.

Fortuna is North of Versailles on Hwy. 5.
Traps will be set on several hundred acres of mostly farm/crop land. Last years' event saw several species caught, and this property boasts opportunities at coyote, bobcat, red fox, beaver, otter, mink, and of course 'coon, 'possom and skunks.
Classes will be tailored to student's needs after the basic sessions are over. Students will be invited to set traps themselves.
A trap-setting contest will be held at the end of the school (lots of fun last year).
Questions?

Well Dale, I'm debating going, have to wait until closer to the date to see if I'll be able to make it or not. My step-son & his wife are expecting their first kid, the first part of Jan. and if the ankle biter decides to come early, I'll suffer big time if I'm gone!!! Who knows, "maybe" I won't win the booby prize for setting traps! I did enjoy myself last year, and learned some helpful stuff too!

I want to attend, just don't know for sure if I can make it right now. I'll let you know when it's closer to the time, so put me down for a strong maybe please.

I'd love too attend but that's when the kids are out of school, Christmas vacation, so we're going on a family trip.

I'd love to go, but that's a bad time. Our holidays last at least a week to visit all of our family.

It was a tough call for those involved as the School needs to run during season.

It's definitely an advantage to run during season. It's a lot easier to show how something works when it can actually work, versus telling how it should work.

Just a handful. The local Mennonites will attend. Too many students would be just as bad as not enough.

This school is located in the middle of Missouri and its real time trapping. Some of you would do well to make whatever sacrifices to be there. If nothing else you will meet a few members of trapboard. Would be interesting to know who is going....Roll call.....
