I sold my huge lot of 6 coon and 1 mink this morning. I don't think I did too bad. XXL coon @ $6.00, XL coon @ $4.00 & LG coon @ $2.00. XXL mink 26" for $10. All put up. I compared to another small lot of green fur. He had XXL for $4.00 & XL for $2.00. I'm happy with it so I guess that's all that matters. I had to pull out after Christmas. January is the best month for me to catch mink so I missed out but hopefully there'll be more for next year.

I talked to the guy I sold to last year. He offered $1 to $2 for the smaller coon and $4 for the XXL. The mink he offered $5 for. I probably won't be giving him anymore bbusiness.

Brian were you satisfied with it? Dad said there was a pretty decent turnout there and avgs weren't too bad. Your guy from last year didn't really want them I'm afraid.

I sold my big load of furs this morning. Was only able to trap the last week of the season & didn't have many traps out. Had a whopping 5 green coon. Got $6.00 for 1 & $3.00 for the rest. I guess $18.00 is better than a stick in the eye!!!

I went with Veers only had 5 pelts, & didn't want to drive who knows how far to sell them. They have a route & one of the stops is in Kearney, which isn't too far from home.

This is the type of year there needs to be more country buyers with a fairly safe place to go with their furs. Sold 199 coons at nafa this weekend on private treaty sales. considering I had to buy them and scrape stretch and dry them and take a commission, I guess $2.18 average isn't bad! Still have around 1300 up there from last year. Im at the edge of my chair waiting to see what they bring. My fault for putting too many eggs in one basket last year.. Never happen again.
Some of you guys need to get your $100 license, have mdc coming in to check your books and freezers all the time, and get rich like we are. You are missing out on all the fun!! If my wife paid attention to my fur business, she would shoot me and probably not get charged for anything but putting an old man out of his misery!

Marc, I'd love to do that but with 3 kids in school I wouldn't have time. Maybe when I retire I can squander my retirement doing that. I agree there needs to be more country buyers. Someday, maybe...

What one gets from a buyer has a lot to do with their markets too. Most large buyers have a network that they've put years into to develop. Pretty sad when the skulls alone are worth as much as the fur in some species.
Some items that should be worth more in this down market are castor, skunk quill, rat glands, and mink glands. Kind of a hassle to mess with some of this stuff but you gotta do what you gotta do.
A person that lives around tourist areas might be better off to have some of your stuff tanned and peddle that way. Same with cleaning and whitening skulls. People by the darnedest things at pretty good prices.

Wanting to buy a few #5 size traps so I sold 30 put up coon to Veirs yesterday for a $9.16 average.
3-4xxxx @ $14 13-3xxx @$11 10-2xx @$7 4-xl @$5
Only saw a couple of others selling put up coon and one had stretched too wide but clean and got docked for length. Another had left quite a bit of the gristle on the pelts and was docked. I don't know why folks don't buy a fur brush and clean their fur up before selling. Those rough looking coons caused the buyer to check them for dog bites, taint, and other things causing their prices to be lower than those with clean, brushed, and bright looking coons.

I often wondered how much fur goes bad before the buyers running routes get it unloaded. Yesterday I saw 4 or 5 carcass cats that had been thawed out to sell thrown into the back of their trailer along with a pretty good pile of green fur. They were running about 30 minutes behind, had quite a few people to go when I left, and still had a few more stops to make before they got back to their shop. You know that trailer had to be getting warm inside with the temps we had yesterday.
They did say they were running several routes through Iowa as many buyers up there had quit buying due to the market. Mark said he and Donnie would be at the Mo. auction.
