with this weather being so warm (hell i was eaten alive by mosquitos last weekend deer hunting) do you think we will have to stave off trapping again this year to wait for prime fur? hell prices are going to be so low already buyer might not even take em. any thoughts?

Shortness of days causes prime not weather. If it were weather animals would freeze to death on sudden cold spells.

Again, it's the length of daylight and the moon phases that control this.

I like to catch mine early, they finish priming really well in the freezer, if you turn the temp as low as it will go.

Yeah you kill that light and the fur will think it's in Alaska during the 8 months of winter. Think of how thick they'll be then. Missouri bobcat turned lynx in the dark freezer. Hehehahahoho.

Welp set your clocks back sat night fur will prime shorter days. Super Trap, Once had a buddy think that setting our clocks back messed up the deer - like they knew we changed time. If you see a deer with a watch on, he might be right, ha ha. Hawk

Well coonsnagger, some say it's the length of daylight and some say it's the temperature. Here's what I can tell you, seems to me that when the days get shorter, it gets cold outside.

Why does being further west or higher elevation mean earlier trapping??

I LOVE it! Trevis is using his HEAD! Beautiful! Somebody PLEASE use THEIR head, and give the man an answer. I've had this argument too many times over the years to do it again. Except...
Here's a hint. There are TWO kinds of "prime". Leather, and fur. Did ya'll know that?
