Long term is around 40 by next weekend , that is fine. You get more under fur the more north you get. Southern fur lacks depth hence the reason less money. daylight has an effect on fur and so does temps. You ou get nice fur as the days get shorter leather starts to get thicker as well, temps give you better under fur and long guard hairs on many species. Genetics play into fur quality as well. Missouri cats are more flat and dull Compared to northern cats. Northern cats have wider white bellies and the back fur is not as flat looking. Northern cats get quite large as well. here is a western SD bobcat taken at 3,500 ft. This is a good friend of mine who was visiting with his son for a few days when I caught this large tom bobcat. Notice how long the belly fur and back fur is. This was a high dollar western cat. Notice how wide the white belly is, I have yet to catch one here in Missouri with such a belly on it. Genetics and day light hours and temps all play into good fur. Click the pic for an enlarged view.

The length of day plays an important role in keying a lot of activities including fur primeness, deer rut...now cloudy overcast days will contribute to the effect of shorter daylight, another tidbit of info is when the length of daylight starts to lengthen, it starts the cycle of breeding season for the canines.
