I just started trapping bobcats and coyotes. What are some good sets? Also, what are some good lures for each?

a dirthole set with alot of visual appeal is the ticket for the beginning cat trapper. lots of shiny or white stuff. a good loud skunky call lure and some urine on the backing, good cat or canine lure down the hole with some bait. this is a good cat set. a proven performer. look at my avatar pic. another example that one is a little more subtle and will still catch a fox, and maybe a yote. i dont know about the yotes, i dont catch em and dont wanna catch em. i caught one last year at a natural looking flat set, the way i understand it, a yote set has to be very natural.

bed your trap tight to the hole and use enough forcing material so that if he wants to look down that hole he has to step on the pan. the beds in those pics are kinda flat, i really like to have the trap bed lower than the dirt in front of it for a bit of a step down. make sure the dirt in front of the trap is packed good. dont be afraid to hang up a bunch of turkey feathers, use cow skulls as a backing, string out cassette tape in the bushes, scratch up some ground, and use lots of urine squirted all around. if it looks like a cult meeting was held there and smells like a litter box, you are apt to catch a cat. i trap mostly around the lake in brushy, hilly country. im sure the same sets will work out there on the prairie, but you might take a look at some of cletis richards set pics. he is around carthage area, probably pretty similar country to the farmland around golden city.

If an area is good enough for one set be it a dirt hole or flat set with a bone etc as showed above always put in 2 sets, make each type DH and a flat this is how you get doubles.
