Oh yes bear tracks alway elicit a specific response and feeling when discovered out hunting. I remember my first bear track like it was yesterday. Over course I always envision them all being 1000 pounds and pissed off but that just adds to it I guess.
My healing therapy from my first divorce was to go bear hunting north of San Fransisco about 5 or 6 hours. I would leave work on Friday afternoon, and drive up. the place I was hunting was on BLM land about 35 miles off the nearest paved road. I had a Chevy s-10 4x4 with a redneck camper on it. Inside the camper I used an old table top set on milk crates to sleep. It was always way dark when I got there, but I got up early Saturday and hunted until I left for home at dark on Sunday night. I did this for about 4 weekends or so.
I'll tell you it ain't that a man is not made to be with a woman, but being alone in the wild outdoors like that is a spiritual experience. We would all be a lot better off if we would take the time to do it more often then we do. I wish i could afford to spent a month every year all by myself in the wild outdoors.
One time I was fixing eats and it was getting dark, I had already eaten supper and was fixing a dehydrated raspberry chocolate something, and it had the most intense raspberry smell as I added that portion to the boiling water while it was reconstituting. I remember the thought going through my head just as it got completely dark that I wondered why they called it "ras BEAR y". Then knowing what I knew about camping in Bear country I thought you know Paul.... you ain't to bright. But the good Lord saw fit to bring me through it unscathed.
