I like to pack along a plastic grocery sack when setting traps, I'll rip a little piece of the sack off and tie it onto a tree limb or some tall grass. if anyone else's memory is fading like mine this does help. The reason I use grocery sacks instead of BRIGHT orange flagging tape is to detour thieves. The white plastic sack looks like everyday debris and not so obvious..But the orange flagging tape is a dead give away for a thief.. This has worked for me until I just made this post...lol

We have to hope we are dealing with a higher grade person on this chat board. I hate a thief though. Just assume set a bear trap by everyone of my traps to deter this kind of stupidity.

99% of trappers are higher grade of people, its everybody else I worry about. There is a high grade of respect amoung trappers even trappers we have not yet met unfortunatly a lot of nontrappers do not know this respect.

I use my gps! But today, i tossed my gps on the dash of the truck and didnt pay attention to how many waypoints i was making, in 17 sets, i had 48 waypoints. I guess i accidentally put it on the dash upside down and the gravel roads i was driving made it bounce and press my marking buttons. I guess i am checking 48 spots tommorrow. lol i wasnt paying attention to my locations cuz i thought i would have it easy with the gps, i guess i will have to be more carefull next time.

yeah and can save your butt too, lol. only thing with the plastic bags, make sure you are well enough away from the set, probably doesn't happen much but i think some animals shy away from things that look different than what is normally there until they get used to it. i know clint locklear in his snaring video showed putting ribbons on gates to make the coyotes go under the fence in the right spot, i agree, when a farmer does something to change the "scenery" on a certain part of the farm, there isn't alot of activity around these places for a little while.

I needed some marking yesterday, just a little rain and the creek was up 8 inches, my identifying marks of running water wasnt working the whole creek was moving. About to abandon one but took 10 minutes more and i found it. Have done good putting markers past sets or before, right above probably not so good. I do like the old bag idea, less flashy, and some watersets can be hard to find, especially if you have alot out. I've got in the habit of carrying a waterproof notepad to write down 4 before the huge sycamore 2 on the left 1 on the right.

I use and live by my GPS, because i can also overlay all my waypoints on to a pic of trapping grounds and really get a visual, and sometimes it makes you go back and move the set bcz you are just not happy with it or you say that would be better right over here!!!! picked my gpsup on ebay for $40. I think cheap enoug and dont have to rely on my memory

cant rely on gps for trapping. Wouldn't dare use it, there is alot of modern technology but thats not what trapping is about to me
