Didn't Think I'd be going

I haven’t been deer hunting for about 5 years due to health. Thought about going this year, as if I wanted to I could sit on my deck & get several. But things have changed and my heart really in it, for several reasons. One of them is deer camp.

We have 5 women in our camp and they all kill deer.

I've never lived more than an hour from a place to hunt, except those years in the Navy. Even when I was in the city back east, in 30 minutes I could be in the woods.

Its a reality test for me. Can I still do it? I live in the woods like it was 1924. Wander the woods and come back to the comradery of camp.
It aint about deer because I am looking at a doe right now with a rifle leaned up against the wall. No fun at home. Nobody to drink whiskey with after I hang it.

Well I'm back from deer camp. Nobody in our group tagged a deer. My son shot at a spike buck but missed. He was really pissed. But, we all had a good time and that's what really mattered. Sat around the campfire, drank lots of coffee and enjoyed each other's company.
I think I did ok strength wise. I'd walk 30-40 yards then stop and rest a minute. I was really tired by the end of the week but it was worth it. The 99 Savage felt heavier than it used to, but we carried on.
The only problem was the huge number of people that showed up in the area. I've never seen that many vehicles along the gravel road. They were mostly gone by Monday but put a damper on opening weekend.
Looking forward to bringing out the muzzle loader in Dec.

We only shot two deer at our camp. Plenty of backstrap for breakfast.
