I been off the board for about 3 weeks now. Had a stroke on 8/24/24. Got up that morning and went in to take a shower. when I stepped in the shower stall my legs went out and I fell. Managed to get up and went to the living room. Felt my left side going numb, told the wife I didn't feel right. She said "you ain't been right for years." I said no damn it I'm serious. She drove me to the local ER. Sat there for seven hours waiting for an ambulance to take me to St Louis. Finally got to MO Baptist hospital and stayed in ICU for a week. They transferred me to Mercy Jefferson in Festus where I had to do two weeks of rehab. Got to come home yesterday but my left side and hand are still weak. Just walking from the truck to the house wears me out. Gotta try to get stronger by deer season. Not sure if my hand is going to be strong enough to set traps or not. This sucks guys, I don't recommend it.

I hate this kind of news. If somebody doesnt post for a while then you dont know if they are in trouble or their computor crashed or they forgot their password. I don't know if you remember but a few years ago, you disappeared and I texted you and it was a computor thing. I am hopeful for your recovery. It didnt kill you and you are saying you can feel both sides. It takes time. A guy at work had a stroke and he was messed up at first but a year later he was almost fully recovered. Only thing was he had trouble saying some words. As far as deer season, you just have to pull the trigger. The rest is negotiable. Glad you are able to keep us informed.

It's frustrating, I'm tired all the time, feel like I'm a burden to everyone. My hair turned snow white. It's hard to tie your shoes when one hand isn't working right. The wife says I should be thankful I'm still alive. She's right but it doesn't make it any easier. The hospital sent me home with a walker but I'm not using it. I walk ok just not very far. I have to say that the nurses at both hospitals were great. They really helped me along. Taking it easy isn't easy for me. But I don't have much choice. I do think it will get better just don't know when.

Years ago, I had a stress anxiety panic attack. I went to the ER and thought I dying. They checked me over and told me to go home and stay in bed for 2 weeks. I forwarded info to work and they said to do what the Dr says (They were the reason I keeled over) I tried to do things and couldnt. I was weak as a kitten. No appetite. Scared to smoke. Drove me nuts. After a few days I called Dr and asked him why I couldnt function. He said the attack traumatized everything in my body and I needed complete rest. I still wasnt happy. Eventually I started eating and was interested in my guns and sewed up some deer skin clothes. Felt like a 90 year old lady. Talking to stroke victims, they all say the reason they feel weird is all the stuff the hospital injected in them. In defense of that, they werent in a bargaining situation and the stuff saved their lives.

Getting those shots in a very short time is crucial to recovery. Hope you get to feeling better, and DON'T RUSH IT. recovery will take time.

Thanks to everyone for the prayers and encouragement. I'm doing better but it's a SLOW process. Left hand is working a LITTLE better, but still can't hold a knife or fork with it. Walking seems to be better, just not very far.

Well Sarge, best of luck to you. I had mine in 2010, and it wasn't as bad as yours, but I've struggled with issues from it ever since. Sucks. Peace.

I don't understand how they can tell, but after the CAT SCAN they ran the Dr said I had had three other strokes in the past. I never knew. Guess this one was worse.

I had a doctor tell me once I had a heart attack. He said he could tell from my EKG. It shook me up enough that I went to a cardiologist. He said the Dr was full of it and what he saw on my EKG was a warning that machine was overdue for maintenance.

I finally got on the treadmill here at the house. Did 10 minutes yesterday and five minutes just now. Also took a trash bag of papers out to the burn barrel and burned it. Gotta rest a little bit and try another five minutes on the treadmill.

I think I'm getting better, at least a little. Walking is easier and more use from the left hand. Tried setting a new Bridger 110 by hand today and it was a no go. Still not strong enough.
