Looks like it's going to be in the mid to high 90's for at least a week. Spent yesterday trimming some trees along the driveway. May have overdone it. Think I'll take it easy today.

Always a good plan in this kind of heat! Go slow, drink LOT's of liquids, (Not alcohol), and BE SAFE!

Actually, June has been great for me. The AC keeps going out (under warranty) so it has forced me to get out and do things. That AC makes you lazy and sleepy. We are getting one inch rains so the crops are doing well. Mornings and evenings are gorgeous. Mid day I go in the basement and work on projects and reload. Out on my deck it has been shady and breezy. I already lost the battle on brush. I had the Boy Scouts come out and cut brush last spring. They cleared my buggy trails. Right now it is all growed back. Too wet to brush hog today. I am behind on fishing. My little brother died two years ago and I did all my fishing with him. Aint no fun alone. My wife used to love to fish but now she doesnt want to. My son has moved away. My brother in law neighbor died too and he was an avid everythinger. Our family lake dried up last year due to the two year drought. I could hitch up the boat and head to Truman but I would be in the full sun by the time I got there. I went down to the creek and set minnow traps. Caught a bunch and put them in a sunken coon proof cage. After a while, I let them all go because there was no fishing on the horizon. My horse is 28 years old. I used to saddle up and stride out across the country. I have a young gelding that isnt broke. I used to buck them out and show them who is boss but I dont hit the ground good these days. Everyone wants a jillion dollars to break a horse and they really dont do anything I cant. Just the risk factor. Every one wants a lot of money to do anything. If anyone lifts a finger to work they want $100. I used to work all day outside for $5 an hour. Next week is the Fourth. Used to invite 100 people out and launch $1000 worth of ordinance and fry fish all day long. Last year I sat on the porch step and grilled a hot dog and launched a few bottle rockets. So here I sit and it is 71 outside and after this coffee, I will go out and find something to do. My blacksmith forge is getting weedy because it is too hot to pound iron. Just rained this morning. I got things stacked up in the barn but it is an oven in there. My dog is staring at me through the window. Time to motivate.

I guess I'm lucky as I live only 15 minutes from some great river fishing and a few conservation lakes. I only fish the lakes for bait though.
I got up and weed eater my fishing spot this morning and finished up just as it started to rain. Love this spot as I can back my truck right up to the edge and can use a lawn chair to set and watch rods. The next rise coming (river holding at 2 foot above flood) will probably put this spot under water a few days. Far different from last year when they had to dredge to keep the channel deep enough for barge traffic.
Most all my fishing is alone with an occasional guest such as my grand daughter or a friend or two. Get to see some great things that city folk never witness. Don't night fish like I use to mainly as the skeeters are so bad and it seems blood thinners make me more attractive lol.
I can usually get a couple of hours of fishing in then on to getting my chores done.

I used to wade creeks. Put on shorts and vietnam boots and have the wife drop me off at the bridge and then have her pick me up downstream. I would dip holes and come up with all kinds of fish. People would comment that they didnt know there were fish like that in that creek. Too much work anymore. I had five big ponds loaded with big catfish and crappie and bass but that was my brothers place so it is gone. I didnt have the $900,000 to buy it off the estate. I am 20 minutes from the Grand River but there is no boat access and you have to wade through the weeds on a steep bank. I got buddies from deer camp that drift fish out on Truman for big cat. Problem is that they tell me about it afterwards rather than before. I hate night fishing. Only time I liked it was on LOZ off a floating dock. My buddy Charlie took his bulldozer and built a boat ramp on the Grand. Covered it with rock. MDOC said he couldnt do that. He said they were very wrong. Their reason was that they had no way to access or patrol the ramp. Charlie said that is too bad and that they were not allowed on his property. Charlie used to sit in his car in front of his house and shoot deer. MDOC said he couldnt do that. Charlie explained that they were wrong again. Charlie took a car and welded it to the top of a tower in his front yard by the road. Deer stand. Charlie died and land changed hands. I will find an easy place to fish around here. Meanwhile I am having other fun. Right now I am cutting down a trolling motor shaft for my little 12 ft jon. The motor was a big old POS that was messed up so I am bubbatizing it.
