Daughter came by yesterday all excited as she watch an eagle swoop down and grab a squirrel in front of her. It took it up into a tree and she was able to snap quite a few pictures of it as it fed on it. All of these happened right here in town. Maybe the answer of getting rid of some of the stray cats in town lol.

My grand-daughter loves eagles, and so does the wife. At the Jour de Fete down in St Genevieve a couple of years ago they had a rescued eagle (I think it's name was Liberty) tethered to a perch. It had injured a wing and could only fly a few yards. It's injury was never going to allow it to fly so the rescue people made it a display to educate folks about eagles. Just a majestic bird. Learned a lot from them.

Last winter our agent turned in 5 dead eagles which included one I found. I asked if they told him how they died and he said no they didn't. They part them out to the native Americans I'm told. Only they are suppose to be in possession of feathers and such.
They get pretty use to you when you have a carcass pile going in the winter. They fly away the first week but return pretty quick. Second week they just move over a few yards and wait for you to leave.

I had 3 on my carcass pile. Owls are the ones that get the stray cats. Not beyond a little dog either. I have my 1910 hunting book that said the Winchester lever action in 10gauge loaded with BB is perfect for eagles. I guess the eagles were getting blamed for lamb loss. I remember when I was a teenager and the Feds made the law about hawks, owls and eagles. I was fishing one time and a hawk grabbed a squirrel and flew over my boat. The squirrel was biting the hawks legs so it let go and the squirrel landed out in the middle of the lake and the hawk landed in a tree. I sat and watched thinking it wasnt over but nothing else happened.
