Ran beagles late morning on Blind Pony CA. For those of you that are unfamiliar with it, it has a fish hatchery that does spoonbill and many other species for stocking Mo. lakes and rivers. I ran the dogs down by the raceways and came across an area where they deposited the otter they catch getting into the fish rearing ponds. There were at least a dozen or more just thrown into the weeds I could see. At one time they'd transport them up on the Mo. river and turn them loose but I guess that's changed. Seems they could give them to someone or even skin themselves rather than waste

Otter have turned into an invasive species by overloading the fisheries and literally cleaning out sections of the rivers, so they won't just turn them loose now. Does seem like a waste to just dump them tho, but by law they can't do anything else with them.

Waste seems to be the new operative. State governments are telling people to kill all coons and possums and just throw them in the ditch. Coyotes too. Save the turkey.
USDA ordered 10 million chickens destroyed just in case they might have bird flu. I think they found 200 infected birds. Latest thing is now they are saying cattle catch the bird flu. Just wait until they tell farmers they are destroying herds just for giggles.
I was taught, and firmly believe that you do not take wildlife unless you have a use for it. Exception would be a critter that is actively and currently destroying valuable property.
This wholesale genocide of wildlife in the name of turkey is out of hand. The accused wildlife mainly subsist on bugs and mice. The #1 killer of turkeys are owls and they are federally protected. That being said, the facts are buried.
Biggest reason for turkey decline in the US is the fact there are 2.5 million people shooting them.
I think I am going to start square skinning coon for home tan. Right now the fur is shot but something for next year. Case skin coon do not home tan worth a darn and if you split them open then they will never lay flat.
Maybe inflation will put wildlife back on the table. Protein is protein. There was a thing on Fecebook where somebody was out raged over dumping snow geese. If you look careful they had all been breasted out. I chuckled and scrolled on. We have yet to be told a shred of truth about CWD. I can imagine a propaganda program to convince people that it is their duty to shoot them and let them lay.

Keep that place in mind for this coming season you might be able to pick up several instead of them going to waste.

The entire ADC industry is built on this. Sad, but that's the way it is.

Well, ADC is the business of destroying a varmit that is actively destroying property. Thats when I use a shotgun instead of a .22 short. It's a crazy world out there. If this election fails then we will all be trapping for food.
