Summertime in the afternoon. Trees still have a lot of leaves. Our camp has two does and a 4 point. Wish an unexpected rain or cold snap would happen this week. Had a blast in Western Kansas. Found enough birds to keep it interesting. Saw Mule deer and coyotes. No jackrabbits. Strange.

Killed a big bodied 8 this morning about 5 minutes after I got to my stand. First legal deer I saw while hunting this year.(This was only my second time out) I've seen several bucks while going to my rabbit hunting spots this season and one was a stud 12 point chasing a doe down the side of the road.
I only deer hunted cause the grand kids wanted jerky. I had to butcher the deer on the spot as he was too much for me to load. I've done it plenty of times when I was younger but old injuries and old age is starting to take it's toll.
I got news for those grand kids that from here on out if they want deer jerky, they either get their own or start helping with the chores involved with it.
