We got to Clay's about 9:30 and there had already been a bunch of fur brought in and sold. I was surprised he was buying coon and only saw one green lot and everything else was put up with $6 high(I really didn't pay much attention as I didn't have any).
Put up skunks with full white stripes had a high of $15. Didn't see any possum brought in.
Coyotes I didn't pay attention to cause I didn't have any but saw a guy with 118 finished coyote. Recognised him from the MTA auction a couple years back. Someone asked him if he was going after them next year and he said not unless something changed lol.
I didn't put up any of my stuff and could have made more if I had my cats. I'd put up a buddies cat the day before and it brought $75. My 4 cats (green) only brought $40, oh well.
Only had one beaver myself, a lrg green , and it brought $10. Didn't catch top end price but there was a ton of beaver both finished and green.
Good xl finished otter brought $45 and there was a ton of them also, green and finished. My 15 green otter averaged $27 with the 3 mediums hurting the average, My high green was $35. I don't know if Clay was going to sell his but he had 64 finished of his own caught this year. Saw a few carcass otter but didn't hear any price on them.
Trevor bought essence, castor, skulls, beaver tails, and pecker bones. I thought he was cheap on the skulls and really didn't pay attention to the other stuff as lots of fellas I knew and visiting was more important lol.
All in all lots, and I mean lots of fur and some great put ups. Really didn't see any junk come through.

The guy with all the finished coyote actually had 122 of them. I messaged Clay and ask him if he knew what they brought and he replied $5 nose count. Wow that wouldn't even pay your fuel bill to catch that many and then your time finishing.
There were around 300 otter bought.

Poor $5 dude. You know if the State is so worried about its precious turkey then why dont they offer a bounty on yotes? I would say coyotes raise as much havoic with turkey as bobcat(a creature which is treated as a sacred cow) It doesnt make sense. Studying old books about fur trade, they didnt used to buy coyote but they had a bounty.

IMO I don't know that bounties is the answer . Just too much habitat destruction going on(something folks have control over) and bad luck weather(something we can't control).
Derek Search caught 5xx coyotes this year on basically the same farms he caught 5xx last year. Shows you what creating prairie lands out of timber land will do. The coyote is basically a prairie animal and turkey are a forest animal. Derek's coyotes go to running pens.
The clearing of land and corn being planted has caused a perfect storm for coon production. Farm crops rarely suffer failure as do natural mast production.

Bounties arent the answer but it would move some money into trappers pockets away from idiot politicians.
Most farmers are more concerned with their livelihood and families than wildlife. Helping the rabbits and the birds is not going to keep the bank from foreclosing. Kind of a diabolical circle they are forced into. $1,000,000 worth of assets and a $1,000,000 worth of debt.
You cant stop people with more money than brains from building ridiculous houses in the country.
Missouri didnt used to have a lot of coyotes. They had red wolves and lots of prairie. The creeks were wooded and full of turkey.
There is a lot more to the issue than habitat. They have been jacking with the weather for years and it has caused a lot of grief for all.
No obvious answer and science is not going to get to the bottom of it for the good of all. Its all about money or lack there of.

I don't think coyotes affect turkeys much. Nothing like the egg eaters and bobcat.

MadDog a million dollars worth of fun would have been going after a 100 coyotes again. The otter deal was just business.Like I've said before water trapping to me isn't fun although it wasn't beaver at least.lol

I hate skinning yotes but am thrilled to catch one. I like to shoot them too. It takes me too long to skin a coyote and I think its the fact I have lost my strength in my wrists. Hurts to pull.
