I sent GWF an email because in one of their videos they said they aren't buying possum this year. It's true. Not even put up fur. Makes me rethink who I'll be selling to.

I still am keeping nice possums. I have tanned possum that I show people and they marvel over how lovely the fur is. Somebody will buy them and I hate to waste.

I sent GWF an email because in one of their videos they said they aren't buying possum this year. It's true. Not even put up fur. Makes me rethink who I'll be selling to. I buy hundreds of possums but do not plan to ever skin one again. If there are drowned or shot in heart or spine with a decent head, I pay $1 each. I get lots and lots. Two reasons I do it. #1 Possums need to be harvested in our modern day world. They are overpopulated and affecting lots of other wildlife populations. #2 If I send a box full of heads to a guy in TX he will pay shipping and I can make .50 each. Win, Win Win situation. Everyone needs to be a winner, especially when it comes to conserving our natural resources and planet. Bring me a pickup load of possums with no head damage and I guarandambtee ya, you will get a buck each. Not a deer hide, a cold crisp. George! If we do not harvest the surplus, we will lose populations. Please do not bring me any possum pelts. I pay innocent young kids $1 each and pitch them. Coon pelts are not much different but I don't pitch them.

They really have a beautiful fur and have lots of variety. I know a trapper who sells the possum and coon meat to someone near his home in St. Louis for $10 each. Good way to thin out the city critters. City trapping would be awesome. Coons and possums are definitely happy campers in the urban jungle.

While a big silver possum hide is pretty, they just don't have the durable leather as other stuff. Like Marc said thought, their numbers have to be held in check. They don't seem to have much diseases like other animals to control their numbers. Nesting birds will appreciate your efforts.

Back during the depression, grinners were the only wildlife around. People hunted them and trapped them and ate them. The hides sold for a decent sum equal to a days work. Read the book "Sounder". I had a couple of great uncles chuckling over back in the day they slept all day because they possum hunted all night. A possums leather is not durable at all. It takes patience not to rip it when you flesh and skin. Rabbit is the same way.
