Would you choose #3 or #4 longspring & why?
I'm thinking I can get the #3 cheaper & put the PIT pan system with the large pan & have a heck of a nice cat trap. But I can buy #4s new where I'd have to find good used #3s. Not a huge difference in jaw spread that I can find.

I use the #3s with PIT pans and have used the #4s the same way. Either would work fine. Lots of used traps out there. The thing to remember is that weak longsprings aren't as easy fix as coil springs so check every used longspring before buying.

No I don't. The longsprings I have are the only traps I own that have offset jaws as they are set for cats only. With the exposed trap set and pit-pans, a cat is almost always caught deep in the trap.

My wife has a house cat and it goes nuts over a cardboard box. The cats outside love a cardboard box too. I think next year I am going to set for bobcat with a cardboard box.....

Sleepy Creek quit/sold out, so if their long springs were on your list you better get them quick, according to what I read Funke Trap Tags will continue to make/sell the stretchers and setters etc.

The sleepy creek guy passed away , his brother in-law was Pete Atkins (spelling) . He was a very nice guy ,. I was rained out one day and went and found his shop showed me the process and machines , It was really nice of him to spend that time , The stretcher machine was woodstreams , Pete was the trap tester for years .
