Anyone reccomend a good factory ammo for coyotes out to 150 yards but most shots at 75 with a 243?

If that's all the range you are shooting then a 22 mag is the way to go. Guys I know a shooting the 243 and 6mm at 500 yards. That's what its for.

243 is hard on coyotes if your wanting to save the fur.

At short range, I am concerned with saving fur. At 500 yards, I just hope I can hit it with whatever flies best.

Man has to shoot what he owns. 22lr, 243, 30-30, 30-06, 7mm08 or shotgun. I've been struggling with whether to buy a 17 rim fire or 22 mag for calling. Any pros or cons?

Wouldn't use the 17 rimfire as you'll end up wounding more than killing. When varmints come in to a call it doesn't usually give you the same kind of shot you'd have like deer hunting. A good set of shooting sticks will also help. I've seen countless coyotes missed by folks not use to doing it. Hell,I've blown a shot or two when I didn't have shooting sticks with me. A 12 gauge is pretty hard to beat for calling brushy areas where shots are likely to be within 50 yards.

Not a 17 rimfire fan.

Looking into the Remington 597 in 22 mag. Have any experience with this rifle? My choice would be a 10/22 in 22 mag but at $1000, that's a no fly zone for me.

I've a Mossburg 640K Chuckster in 22 mag that has killed a bunch of fox and a few coyotes. That said ,at the effective range of a 22 mag on coyotes, I'd opt for the 12 gauge. With the chokes and ammo they have nowdays, it would be a better choice.

I have had 22 mag Ruger and Henry and Savage and Marlin. All good just getting too valuable to leave in the truck. On Dec 26th I bought a brand new Rossi for $149 and have shot the heck out of it. I also found CCI for $8 a box. Life is good.
