Markets aren't great but that doesn't bother me since I can make .40 on a dollar or 2 dollar coon and can't lose more than a few dollars. But, I feel sorry for the folks I buy from that totally depend on their fur money to feed their families and keep wood in the trailer wood stove. They have been hurting for a few years.
Haven't heard any sale stories so guess most trapping folks are shipping to nafa, fha, or overseas. That is what I would do if i were a serious trapper. Finish and ship!
As far as I know, that crazy honest serious buyer, Peterman, up north of Bolivar in the Weubleau area is paying as good as expected for great quality fur from up north. He is an honest man who cares about what he does!
Down here it is a different story but have noticed the real trappers are still trapping and getting paid an honest price and the serious coon hunters are still taking out the dogs and have quit worrying about getting rich and cutting down den trees to make a weeks wages.Never had more bobcats and greys brought in but the reds are scarce. Lots of beavers and maybe 1000 coons! Most coon catches have been accidents!
It is a great time to be alive and kickin!
Enjoy your last few days of land trapping for the big three! Water trapping is just getting started in these parts!

Never worried about coon prices when I had a hound. It was all about getting out.

Never worried about coon prices when I had a hound. It was all about getting out. Yep! My Dad was a coon hunter and he hated the high market in the 80's! He enjoyed hunting, not having city folks in shorts and with beagles walking through the woods shining coons for the 10-20 they were worth! He bleepin hated the high market cause he was a coon hunter who enjoyed the sport. He averaged about 25 for his 120 coons one year and he distributed it to all his grand kids and they probably invested it in apple or other great stocks cause they are ALL super wealthy! But they also took the time to learn new thing and pursue ideas. Crazy world we live in! This has been my most enjoyable trapping season and fur buying season ever! That is part of the plan!! Don't have to make money to be happy!
