If they're low levers, I wouldn't waste my time trying them on predators.

I used to be that way. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken manure. Get you some traps that are made for what you want. I used to think victors were great until I started predator trapping. What are you wanting them for?

When I think of older square jaw Vic#2s I think of low levers and jaws that hooked over the outside of the frame; may have been other square #2 Vics, but I never owned any. Those outside jaws were installed on a 1.75 (or maybe 1 3/4, cant recall) base frame, they never had enough rise in the levers to get a good lock up and the frames bent allowing the traps to fall apart. I put 1.75 round offset jaws on mine and the levers had enough metal that I cut the slots longer and they came up high. After jaws were installed I bent the tips up sharply to prevent them coming out. These traps worked and they still do, they have held coyotes. But with old age wisdom I would not repeat this, the trap is marginal after all modifications are done; I have no muskrats and few mink, so no experience with using these traps for them but have read that the square #2 Vics are very good traps for theses species, as is and no mods at all. I believe some guys seek them out. You may be better off to advertise them on trapping forums and sell them. The thing no one mentions much is cost of trap versus value of trap and the associated pay out, if a coyote is worth say $21 and you pay Carlis $21 for his SVS#4 the trap is paid for after the very first use, these traps or others like them come ready to use and will last a lifetime, by the same token if the coyote is worth more you made a profit on the first use. Buy tools designed for your application, my advice. I bet I've piddled away a fortune in time spent fixing-tweaking-modifying stuff over my lifetime that could have been better used by buying proper tools to begin with. I personally see no need for 4 coils unless the trap is wire levered and believe most chain gets changed because it can be not because it should be, if you can't break the chain by jerking it with all your muscle and weight it is unlikely that a 12-30# animal can. I do add swivels to almost every trap, closer to the trap the better, imo.

What are you wanting them for? Really I'm just messing around with him I've got good Predator traps but a friend of the family sold me these three old number to square jaw victors and I thought that's just messed around with them I enjoyed tinkering on things and they could definitely use some tinkering I really don't know if I'll ever even set them

I weld and grind and fire up the forge early in the year. Right now, any trap or gear that needs repair goes on the "Project" pile. Grab something else as I am too busy to jack with it. If you bubble weld the jaws, set the pan tension and get rid of the swing set chain then that is a quick job and they are fit for use.
