Have any of you guys made your own seem like it would be pretty easy and I have a bunch of duke #4s I took the long box swivel off and was going to pull of the clip but I was looking at it and was wondering if I could just put a D ring in it add a swivel to that and be good.

Sudden valley makes a very good baseplate with a similar type swivel to the duke.
The #4 Dukes I have I welded the center locators just so I didn't have to worry about one failing. Have had a lion or two bend the factory bases of the #4s however the lions were still in the traps when I got to them.

I went ahead and made some out of 3/4 wide1/8 thick falter steel just bent a bend in it on my anvil and welded them to my traps after I removed the factory center locator. They work well

if you have a welder and a bottle jack its a cinch to make a press. A few flat pieces of steel and you can have a base plate jig in minutes

That would have probably saved my hands I just marked center and used a bolt to shape the metal.

Carlis Stevens sells a nice base plate and swivel, Nicest bedding center swivel I've seen. Think he might be selling the swivels alone too.

I make base plates out of stock panel rod. Built a fixture to put the offset kink in the middle.

I went cheap. They were dukes so I didn't want to put much $ into them. I posted years ago where I laminated the jaws with #9 wire and base plated with stock panel rod and bubble welded for fun. Just went crazy with the wire feed.

I didn't bubble or laminate mine Paws-I-trip and base plate and new chain 6 ft of flat steel only cost me 12 bucks so it wasn't to bad.

Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedI enjoy tinkering and doing stuff like that keeps my mind occupied. Im always making things the press opened up a lot of options to build better stuff not to mention its a heck of a lot stronger than me lol and don't get tired! I use my press to make jaw laminations, base plates, coni stands Any thing that needs a intriquet bend that needs to be precise a hydraulic press is the ticket. those old longs are my absolute favorite to trick out! im not very proud of this one
