I am sure you folks know as much about the markets as I do. I plan to use the same strategy as last season and fly by the seat of my pants and make every effort to not lose money on any furs. last year I averaged about .45 profit on my coons not including labor and sold everything to larger buyers and/or taxidermists. Fortunately, I have a few serious taxidermists who will only buy from me. The furs from this part of the state are not highly sought by the greeks, chinese, russians, and other countries but are some of the prettiest critters in the country.
I still have 1500 coons spoiling on the nafa shelves from two seasons ago. I doubt if they ever sell. They finally sold all my 2014-15 yotes for 2.66 at last sale. Yay! I lost money for sure but still laughed all the way to the bank.
I may show up and buy at a few places like the Laurie clinic or a few AR sales. The only way we small buyers can survive in today's fur business world is by working together. Last season, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to do business with a few AR buyers and one of Missouri's finest, Derrick Peterman.
Can't wait til my possum, coon, and skunk season starts on Nov. 15 and my real season begins in Mid December.
