We've all discussed trap drags and the amount of chain needed but nobody has ever said what size chain to use. Just got some stuff in the mail to start getting ready for season, a dozen drags included but I forgot to get chain. Does anybody have helpful input, maybe mix chain to add weight to the drag end, add swivels, shock springs, etc. Love to hear what others have found to work. Coyotes will be the biggest critter trapped.

There's a thread on here called setting them up. Lots of discussion on chain length. Type in "drags" in the search bar

I used 8 feet total. I attached a swivel, 4 feet of chain, swivel, 4 feet of chain, swivel and drag.

I like about 10' and my favorite chain is the sides of tire chains on grapples. I guess the links might be 1/8 or 3/16 diameter by 1 1/2-2" long. Longer the chain the more the tangle, kinda like a 100' orange cord on a construction site. That heavy chain is not needed to hold the animal but the added weight helps insure ground contact and hookup. I have several lengths of #2 chain that I use with clogs, which by nature are heavier than my grapples.
And I ain't sure what exactly is meant by "drags" . I see pictures of boat anchors that could be used with 1' of chain.
