Ok so here's my qualm: I've caught 3 skunks in my dp's just this week and no matter what I do, I end up airing my truck and clothes out. All 3 have been lights out head shots in dispatch abd they still shoot off! So are there any old trappers tricks to prevent them from spraying in their death throes?

Syringe pole with Acetone is best. Next, lung shot. IMHO Good luck!

Whether true or not, I was always told their brain matter possibly contained the rabies virus and was told to lung shoot em. Always worked for me with minimal stench.also carried a sheetrock mud bucket or just a small bucket with lid to put em in.

Cb short to the rib cage is what I have good luck with. Head shot is a definite spray.

Yep head shot is a guaranteed full blow out spray, I have caught 3 so far and I hang around till they calm down, once calm you can get pretty close, i try and shoot straight down through the shoulders, so far i have had no spray, but mind where your trap is, i now have a Montgomery with a big dent in the pan.

They just die and squirt!! If they have not already sprayed when I approach, I shoot them in the heart and they die and no scent! Thought everybody knew that. Never head unless you want lots of smell! I caught one yesterday in a little set down the hill and shot it and already sold for 20 to a taxeedermist gal who love skunks. Of course knew I'd catch a red head or damn yote this morning cause that's how is always works and caught the damn yote. Pretty, though. Already sold him to the gal who bought the skunk! Gotta be nice to people if you wanna sell stuff. This fur buying can be fun but if you are doing it to make money, you are screwed! Sorta like trapping but lots more freaking paperwork. That's why buyers are extinct! Gone forever and ain't coming back! haha

Gotta talk sweet to them and read their body language. I stickem with a 4ft pole. Catching skunks gets me excited. My buddies think I'm nuts and call me when they get one. Their loss. That first one you poke really gets your heart pumpn!
