I have somebody with a rat problem in illinois. I'm not paying the price tag for a il. License. There's a new trapper there unsuccessfully trapping them. If I brought my traps and handed them to this guy and said what to do and he pulled them. Would that be legal? I imagine it is, but it's a communist state with not so nice agents.

First off. What's wrong with HIS traps?
Hope this doesn't sound rude but.....I don't like the idea. Just doesn't seem right. Either you accept the rules, pay the price, or forget it! That's my humble opinion. Trappers don't need another black eye.

In some states if I ride in your truck while you check traps I would have to be licensed, considered to be assisting the trapper. Illinois I know nothing about. But if you are telling him/her how to make the set, that would be assisting for sure. If it really is a problem, the landowner should pay you enough to cover your expense.
Along the same line, if I check your traps I need to be licensed and my name tag on the traps along with yours. I've seen posts that said so and so checks my traps and calls me, clear violation, I believe. One of the reasons we have to tag traps.

It's a subdivision lake the whole neighborhood would have to breat up the I think off the top of my head 400 bucks. I'll call illinois cd

Getting him more traps. Yeah, that's a great gesture. But unfortunately, he'd have to be the one to do all the work and reap the benefits too. It's like Trevis (tjm) mentioned. I'm sure you would be in violation if you assisted in any way. Now, if you loaned him a bunch of traps and he tagged them with his tags, set and run them himself, that should be fine.

I know I heard of a ride along ticketed because he might have opened gates, thereby assisting the trapper, I don't recall which state. been awhile back.
Bet you could give him some instruction over the phone as he goes.

You have to buy an IL non-resident trapping license and I think they call it a habitat stamp. Cost is $186 and change I believe.

If it was early season I'd buy one and make my money back setting conis for coon. Amazing in that state they can use 220s but we can't even use 160s. But I digress. I don't want to spend that much for the little bit of season left.
