I am mid-east area of Missouri
How is everyone's coon, rat, and otter populations this year in your areas? I am catching about the same number of coons as last year, but not many young ones. The rat catch has increased dramtically and the otter population seems down quite a bit. How are things in your area?

I'm in Henry county and all of our pops are way down. More deer than we have had in years and we had one of the worst blue tongue problems in the state. But coon pop way down there very few and far between. Coyotes are the same way. Rats actually seem to be up a little. Last year our coyotes had mange very bad. The coons had distemper very bad and the lack of sow and kitten coon can really be seen now.the conservation said a parasite like blue tongue effected the sows and there milk which killed the kittens and the sows. I know several guys and myself included that either caught no sows or kittens at all or just one or two last year. I caught 67 coon last year and only one was a sow. That's not good at all. And it can see the effects this year. Almost all the coyotes caught last year had mange very badly.on the bright side the lack of coyotes has really made a huge impact on red fox populations theres more around here than I have ever seen. All other animal seem ok at least cats and beaver and otter.but coon, coyote, skunk and even squirrels are very low. Still tons of possums but they cant get distemper.
