Sure has been a warm and wet season so far and I'm ready for a freeze up. I've went thru my dry dirt like a fat lady eating cookies.Several days of remakes only to have it rain again that night causing more remakes. The ground is still warm enough that the worms are still at the top of the ground. Makes for getting off the roads tough as trying not to rut up farmers lanes.

I hear ya' barking, Big John. Been trying to do the whole "...making lemonade" thing. My predator sets that I sloshed into mud have been filling with water after rains every 4th day, but it has been fun to make some open water sets with drowners. I can't even get to my firewood I have down on the ground, BUT I haven't been burning hardly any wood...go figure. Mr. Coyote aint even hungry yet. I'm kicking up mice on every other step and seeing frogs, plenty of bunnies, and other yummy things. Coiled and ready for a decent front.

Yup sasquatch probably could fill a 5 gal bucket full of worms from dirthole sets. Hey,maybe I should have been fishing instead of trapping bahaaaaaaaaa.
I've been catching coyotes and a few cats, but nowhere what I could be getting if I could get more than 100 yards from the road.Setting the travel routes close to the roads just don't produce as many double or triples.

Yes Sir! The cold snap we had this last week has really got the coyotes moving.Deer and duck hunters gone is a big plus too. Its never too cold for trapping!!! But, its not gonna get cold. Hasn't been for decades. But, at least if it would freeze solid for a few weeks, I could outwit the dummies! Have fun, men and boys! Trapping is about as good as life ever gets!!!

you need to keep that cold up along the river, I'd love to see a sunny day; can't remember the last one. This far south bverboy, the last time we had a long hard freeze has been a while like Marc said. Several years since numbers were negative more than a couple days, and this half cold just is miserable freeze/thaw, can't dress right weather.
Not trapping yet and may not this year due to health, but in past years have made more fur when lows were above 30* than in extreme cold and it is a lot easier when you can be comfortable, imo. I'd welcome a warm spell! Might even set some traps if forecast looked warm for several days.
ADC folks catch critters in all kinds weather including summer. Are fur trappers less adaptable?

Trevis, here cold weather means cats and coyotes have to husle to stay fed.Coon and possum will den up so you don't have them clogging up sets. Catch circles aren't a mudpuddle and people aren't out messing around.

Sure, I know that, if it stays cold. Why I said to keep it up there. I'm where the arctic and gulf jet streams meet and overlap. 60* change in temps in one day not uncommon, so cold usually means freeze /thaw, extra work, disrupted movement. Never a time here when extreme hunger is a main motivator. Different circumstance requires different approaches. Years ago we had times when temps stayed cold and once set in had to make the adjustments.

sliverfox, it wasnt cold down your way last year? Depends on how you define cold! I was born and raised in Iowa back in the 50's - 70's! Haven't been cold since!! Wish it'd lock in and get below zero for a few weeks. Cat's would be in trouble!!
