Like always, some good and some questionable comments. CCW and open carry are different subjects and hardly should be discussed in the same conversation. Open carry (long and short guns)is legal statewide. Except towns, cities can and do prohibit inside city limits. Where one city permits open carry; simply crossing the street into another town will put you in violation. Must be open though, my understanding is if my coat covers most of the hand gun then it is not open carry; that is likely open to interpertation. CCW requires complet concealment, so one comment about having a permit allows open carry is obviously incorrect. Mo. honours CCW permits from many if not all other states; so if friend can carry concelled in his state he probably can here. Inside your home or vehicle is your castle so concealment is moot, no public there. Born before '67 exempts hunter safty requirement. Military service used to exempt this too, not sure if it still does. Mo. also honours hunter safty training from most other states, so if friend has a hunting permit in his home state he may come under reciprocal acceptance. Here are a couple of places that try to explian gun law; handgunlaw.us/states/missouri.pdfwww.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-laws/missouri.aspxAnd to get a true answer to all your questions about wildlife laws, go here and ask; (these are the people who actually know) mdc.mo.gov/about-us/how-contact-us/contact-form

Thanks TJv and Jay. He does not meet the age exemption, does not have a hunter ed from his state, or a CCW.
Jay, I was wondering if he could do it under an apprenticeship. I'm going to use the link TJ provided and and "get it in writing."

That's a great link TJ. Unfortunately none will work for him. I did find out his state does have Hunter Ed, he's just exempt in his state. He's going to see if he can take it anyway.

I thought the hunter ed was only for deer and turkey hunting, not small game

I gather that the hunter Ed was about the safety of hunting, no matter what you hunted.

I took four of our kids to "hunter" class, years ago and at diffeerent times, and the only mention of hunting was to watch where your companions were. All basic safty. Don't dos. Anyone who stayed awake could pass the test.

No such thing as too much safety training.

I know its about safety, but your only required to have it to purchase deer and turkey tags. You don't have to have hunter ed to purchase small game.

Any person that was born after January 1st, 1967 has to take the hunter safety course to hunt ANYTHING in the state of Missouri. There are some exceptions, like hunting on your own land, but hunting small game it IS required.
