Osage thrift store in Sedalia has some CCI hp shorts. They were 9.00 or so for a hundred rounds.

BigJohn if you're down and out you have to improvise!!! Take any old cheap long rifle and take your side cutters and cut about half of the lead off. Been doing it for years with no side effects.

What's that supposed to accomplish? Won't be any quieter, and the extra velocity will likely make the bullet go deaper/thru.

Shorts used to run about 600 fps. I am sitting here looking at short CCI HPs and they are 1000 fps. A box of el cheapo long rifle is 1150.....The side cutters work or use a pistol. I see your point though John.

Well my buddy at The Gun Store came thru this afternoon. Got 300 for $30 .
I'm not worried about the sound, just the amount of penetration. I've a market for my coyote skulls so I heart shot them and don't want a passthru. Short HPs work best for me.

Length of the brass has nothing to do with the VELOCITY, and noise/penetration. READ THE BOX!!

CCI's are quick compared to other HP's. They do call 'em "Mini Mags". However, as far as I know they are the only company still making SHORT H.P.'s, and while I don't shoot a lot of critters, they are and always will be my favorite. I like huntin' squirrel with 'em, too.
