Exactly 7 days ago I pinched the otter on the dock. I saw his gift to me this morning as I was checking traps. Now, how to catch him?

Too much current for that. I'm leaning toward bringing I some cardboard and dirt or sand and making a box to conceal the trap in. I'll bait it with a fish carcass. Does anyone know if the otter will keep with a 7 day return time?

What are you talking about? I'm asking if anyone knows if the otter keep a regular pattern so I will know to have fresh bait out.

I am sure there are many factors on his travel patterns , maybe put up a trail cam and see how it reacts and when it comes back.

I knew I was reading that wrong for some reason... No, you didn't! I was struggling with the wording too! It may have been more clear if the word "keep" was replaced with "stay".

Well sorry, I thought when he said "Does anyone know if the otter will keep with a 7 day return time?", that he was asking if a otter would keep (meaning "stay fresh after it is dead") when he (tryinhard) would returned 7 days later to check the set. That is how I took the wording, sorry, my bad!!!

If you see sign now you better set now. My experiences the otter will stay around an area for a while before moving on again.

I have this issue every year. The otter come to the dock, I can't set a legal trap to catch them & the dock owner sets an illegal trap because he can protect his property and catches them. He disposes of the entire animal. The CA here lets him do it. Just trying to put the cash in my pocket instead of it rotting somewhere. I'm limited on bait and have heard that fresh is what they like. I was thinking I could set the trap on a drowner on the 6th day and hope to have him when he came back on the 7th.

It is an old rule of thumb with otter. My accidental a week ago was a coni I had set for a little over a week and bam.

Talk to the dock owner and see if he will let YOU trap the dock as his agent, or maybe give the catch to you. Why can't you set a legal trap?

To do what he is doing would be illegal. He has the permission from the CA.
