Started trapping last Tuesday , caught 3 coyotes that had some of the worst cases of mange that i have ever seen. One was almost hairless. Sad to see them this way. Has anyone had this issue with coyotes or is it just in my area? If this trend continues i am done with coyotes for the year.

Last year was the worst around here in years. I haven't trapped one this year but the ones I've shot are much better so far.

last year the coyotes in my area were in better shape than in previous years.4 years ago I had 50%,next 2 years between 60% to 70% so I just quit setting for them. Last year out of 52 coyotes I had 11 with mange, but not severe. I started setting my coyote line yesterday,so we'll see how they are this year. A buddy hascaught 9 with only one bad one. A super cold and snowy winter will take it's toll on the mangy ones.

Yep Mother Nature will weed out the real mangy coyotes with weather and even the pups many of them won't make it to see their first winter, they are dead by then mange effects them harder and faster than adults.

They are overpopulated and need thinned out! Keep the skulls, feet or something and pay for the gallon of gas it took! haha I've never seen a bad mangy one in this area but lots of ugly ones that aren't worth much. The more you hunt and trap a population of any critter that has healthy available habitat and is harvested by the laws and not poached, the healthier it'll be! Tell THAT to the animal rights minivan football mom, soccer dad McDonalds addicts!! haha

I saw a few on the cams last year that looked like they might have mange. So far this year all look well furred. I don't know if this one was mangy or what but it was one ugly dog.

Only caught 8 or 9 otter last year login, but then again only kept 4 sets out for them. Year before,I took 32 with only a dozen sets for them. The 52 coyotes,13 bobcats, and 2 fox ,last year, came out of no more than 18 predator sets at one time. Doesn't take much time to run that short of a line. Unlike you,I made more money off my fur than the skulls.Maybe if you work on honing your trapping skills rather than try to discredit others, you might make better catches yourself, but thanks for your concern.

I caught 30 yotes in seven days with 17 sets out, was lucky only 2 had mange and another had some sores and scabs that appear to be something other than mange .. I always like to take pic of the diseased animals for show and tell and defense of reducing wild animal numbers if and when we need the evidence.
