Anybody got any ideas for sets that will catch coyotes and not so many dogs. I've got an area by home that I know coyotes use but I see a lot of dogs also. I'd like to catch the yotes and avoid the dogs if possible. Folks around here don't like to keep there dogs kennel ed up and let them roam free. Earlier this year 2 dogs ruined a bow hunt by chasing off the deer that were heading my way. Any advise would be great. I'd hate to pass up on the fur and the opportunity to help out the farmers around here.

Great questions! Every serious hunter and trapper figures the solution to those questions out on their own and never shares the answers to others!!

If I catch a dog, I get it out of the trap, then I will set down and have a serious talk with it. After that I never see the dog again...
Oh wait a minute, I talk with it first, then get it out of the trap...

I kinda figured it was gonna be a hope for the best set. Release any unwanted and hope there smart enough not to come back. I've caught a few dogs before without injury, they seem to wise up pretty quick.

No way I know of to keep dogs out of your sets. Probably best to find another place. Dog threads always go stupid on this site. By the way login you have to tap them on the nose first or they never listen!

If you catch one, give it a good dose of skunk juice to it's back. When it arrives at home smelling to the high heavens of skunk, people tend to do a better job of keeping them up. Hopefully they'll let it in the house before they smell it lol.

Love the idea big John. I think I'm gonna try that. Farmer came to me today to tell me he saw 2 big beautiful coyotes crossing the field this morning. I guess I better get after them before he finds someone else to do the job.

Believe me it works pretty good! Even had one guy flag me down after I had done his dog and asked if I trapped skunks,as he thought they had sprayed his dog lol
Going to start after the coyotes tomorrow myself. I've waited as long as I could stand it for the deer hunters. The places I'll be setting are hidden enough from the road I shouldn't have to worry about them.
