Sick of this trophy hunting crap!! Hunters all texting they've seen 6-9 bucks each and all kinds of does...nothing as big as they liked. Had to lay the law down to them about 9 am. Told them to kill a doe or don't come back. So far two of them have earned the right to come back again.

What can one expect with ALL the hunting shows on hunting channels on these days glorifying the monster buck and practice buck mgmt at all cost. it is to appeal to a market that spends millions and millions on products to ensure trophy bucks are your first choice.
I can remember back,in the day when you got excited when you had a tag that allowed you to shoot a doe! In Iowa years ago you only got a chance at harvesting a doe every other year and that wasn't a guarantee just put your name back in the drawing for the limited amount of doe tags available. Actually called an any deer but many people wanted the meat so if a doe came by she was harvested during a 5 day gun season.

Blaze orange time is a giant headache in more ways than one.

I hear ya Calvin. Many landowners don't want you to start till after deer season and this alone limits a guy's time.
Had a couple of duck hunters get upset with me this morning as I was setting for problem beaver. Landowner told them he needed the beaver gone worse than them duck hunting. He told them if my stuff was messed with they could take their duck hunting somewhere else. Great landowner and friend who's ground I always catch a cat or two off of.

I would like to see MDC give trappers their own opener weekend, and then move the deer season back another week and allow trappers the first saturday in Nov as opener give us a few weeks minus the orange brigade. Problem is about every state makes their bulk off big game hunting, but if worried about deer numbers allowing many does to be bred , instead of mixing the pot durring the heart of the breeding season I am willing bet they would see an increase in fawns the next spring. Iowa, for years had a December gun season when deer where low, density,to,give max breeding a chance to take place. Even during years of high deer numbers they never changed it I am sure more out if tradition than anything.

How so, Robert. Just that it overlaps Thanksgiving?
We here in MN have a week between water opener (in the south) and deer hunting. It works OK that way. Probably better than same day opener anyhow. People get stupid/crazy over deer. I won't touch a piece of private ground during deer season, unless there are absolutely ZERO hunters on that property...and I assume why many MO trappers wait till its all over to venture out.

There is no way these landowners will allow access prior to deer season flr fear we will "bounce" the deer off of their property! Backing it up a week totally removes ANY chance we have at open water trapping in northern Missouri on private property!!! This os a royal cluster f#ck in the making!

I have several land owners that allow me to trap their property the week before deer season. As long as I am gone before the deer season.Been doing this for years, and they have never complained that my trapping intrusion has had any ill effect on their deer hunting. Every part of the country is different--now parts of MN.are under new regulations regarding antler size--they are copying something they got from Mo. practices. Deer are for eating--nothing else. This antler scoring crap is for the birds. Tom

And the big ones aren't much for eating, IMO.
Give me a 1.5 year old doe any day.

Robert maybe we all have one or two landowners that way but if we could get a 3 week window price to a firearms opener I know plenty of private landowners that would have little problems with me trapping in there prior to deer season. When people call me now first thing I ask is do you deer hunt on the property.
Moving the date back I feel is better than leaving Everything open the same weekend that is a big mess as you have 400,000 rifles in the country, makes me more than a little nervous and won't set some places until after the season, so I would gladly take 3 weeks prior to firearm season and I know many others would too.
I would like to see MO open on the first Saturday of Nov and no season on coyotes period. Move bobcat back until Dec 10 th and keep it open he till mid February.

Just got the numbers of the deer harvest opening weekend topping at 91,000 deer. that figure is up 30,000 from last year.

And the MDC wants to build the herd? I have local Missouri farmers asking for price quotes on deer control already for next summer. Be nice to work here at home for a change I guess. Just seems like such a waste.
