The highs in the high 30s are somewhat workable...the lows in the teens are not, for water. Teens builds ice pretty fast. And doesn't seem to be much of any relief in sight.
Sure hope that forecast changes some.
So much for the greenhouse effect.

The weather is what it is , lows in 20's is not cold and highs in mid 30's will put some ice on but shouldn't be too bad, I would expect some highs in the 40's come the end of the forecast . Coons are about worthless anyhow this year so trap coyotes . The Dakota's and Wyoming eastern half is supposed to get snow and possible blizzard conditions lows will be around zero or below with wind chills. Robert if your trapping in the eastern Half of ND you should be into the coyotes as very few sheep that way and lots more cattle and crop ground, a good friend works for WS up that way and he has piles of coyotes because many cattle ranchers only worry about them for a period of 3-4 weeks in the spring time otherwise they get refuge on many of those cattle ranches. Get out in the flat country around james port plenty of coyotes for sure. Also their share of mange which will hamper some areas for a period of time.

Not only the weather to watch, I have to worry about the riots when they announce the Grand Jury decision. Do I go 3 hrs SW for Deer/Trapping season, or stay to defend the house?

I bought a new snow shovel once. Had to return it, never could figure out where the gas went. or find the ignition switch to start it up.

ADC, this is coon country! It is what we trap! Somebody has to feed the Demacrats and it falls on our shoulders here in coon country!

I/m with Robert on this one. I/m looking for coon harvesting weather, personally.
Appears a bit of a warm up (or more average) the following week. But I suppose most water will all be hard by then.

Robert Iowa is coon country too, but lows in the 20 and highs in the low 30's are common in the north country and they still do ok on coons. As mentioned don't trap standing water , better bigger coons are had on the high ground anyhow. Your numbers might be lower but the market value higher. The only coons I am worrying about this year are all within 150 ft of a road and mainly for my son to set his daggers on. My point being the temps we have aren't cold, for many people they are the norm. Or slightly above the norm. If you just left ND you missed out on some cold real cold . That is coyote, cat and badger weather up that way.

I used to get excited about REAL cold like -15-25 air temp cold as I knew the coyote snares would be full and the bobcat traps did really well, the worst part was the tropical temps one would see ina great while up that way in mid January it might get 30 and lows in the 20's for 7-10 days and that would be very slow times up that way on everything, then the cold plunge would reenforce itself and your catches would climb back up. Again there is a reason I moved down this way LOL, 40 some years of 5-6 months of winter well it just got old, the older me and my wife got. But something about snow trapping and fighting the elements that at times can be rewarding, just not that often anymore

We had a little moisture of some kind last night as there was ice on my truck this morning. Right now it's about 27 degrees with a wind about 25 mph.Going to be more of a shock to the trappers than the varmints lol.
One thing about the cold is the varmints will quickly clean up all the dumped deer carcasses and gut piles that'll be left around by the deer hunters starting this weekend.Won't really affect my plans to much as I don't plan on setting opening day except for some problem beaver and rats.Landowners having been wanting them gone for the last couple of months and I've put them off as long as possible. Farmers will be able to get to those wet spots they pulled off earlier due to damage the combines were doing wit the firmer frozen ground.
It is what it is and we'll all just have to work around it.

I don't plan on setting much until after Thanksgiving. Will probably put out some Cable Restraints though. I'm getting a buddy started this season so he's anxious to put some steel in the ground. Wants to learn how to trap. It's not the ideal temps to teach a guy, but after bedding in freezing conditions, normal temps will be a breeze!

You're right! They'll see it's not just setting a trap and fetching your animals the next day!
