I have a pear tree that died sometime last winter. It is standing and I plan to cut it down. What is the best part for smoking with or is all of it good?

Smoke the leaves first. You won't care what the meat tastes like! I think the heartwood would be best. No bark!

Any fruit tree is good including mulberry. I have heard bad things about cherry. I know the leaves are toxic and never burned any cherry wood. Apple, pear, peach, and plum is good.

If it's dead make sure to soak it in water a while or it'll burn up before you get any flavor out of it.

Unless you soak it till it sinks, your wasting your time. Try wrapping it in Aluminum foil to keep the air off it.
