Hey does full metal jacket by PCG replace the use of wax on coyote traps or is it just used like a dye?

I was thinking about dying my traps then dipping then in the fmj. That's what I was told to do.

I use it in my DPs to keep the inside from corroding. A lot less time consuming than the traditional methods, tried it last year and was really pleased with it.

would it work in the place of a wax? I don't have any access to a big pot and burner strong enough

Most dips do take the place of wax as they provide a constant, "slick" surface.

No biggie, hope it works for you. I've got two gallons- if someone doesn't buy it I reckon I'll give it a try. A little Research, if you will.

I think FMJ is water emulsion floor wax, like janitors use in schools and such, so it is reported anyway. I have never used it, but some guys really love it and some report that it turns milky in water sets. Should not change the color of the trap, IIRC. Once the trap makes the first catch it likely be shined off anywho. But for storage and until a catch is made I'd bet it's better than rust.
ps the floor wax was used by some before FMJ became a name, so some support to that theory

I still haven't used it but from what I gather just dip traps in and let dry. One guy said it doesn't take abuse the way they say it should. Still wears off after 10 or so catches

after 10 catches I wouldn't care, could buy a new trap, but I still use Gulf Wax (old dog thing)

Is gulf wax better than trappers wax?

Pike uses it and loves it. Dp wise. Kranks method of diping in old fish grease is as good as it gets

Is gulf wax better than trappers wax? I don't know, I've never used any thing else. My knowledge of dips and artificial wax is limited to what I've read. Three pounds wax plus an ounce of rosin til your pot is 2/3-3/4 full. Rosin makes the wax tougher and more pliable.
