I got ? for you guys, I've been settin for yotes for the past 3 seasons & haven't caught one yet, I've trapped my whole life with my Papa, he passed in 09, we used to catch em all the time, I've set like he taught me, dirt holes, flat sets, post sets, & blind sets, can't figure what I'm doing wrong, some sets are thrown, which I figure they may be rollin in, others may be deer, but I've set off the trail, I'm stumped, feel like I'm disgracing my grandpa, all my other sets for coons, muskrats, possums, beaver, & fox are catching, my papa always told me yotes were skidish but lordy didn't think they were this bad, maybe some tips from yall might help, by the way I live La. theres swamps, creeks, ponds, pastures, farm land, & woods here, so if you guys got any tricks up your sleeves please share, thanks. Always listen to your elders, they are a wealth of knowledge, & pass it on to the next generation, they are the future & the only way to keep those memories & knowledge going!

Make sure your bedding the trap solid and check your pan tension. If your trap has any movement it will get dug up. Location is key.

I had the same problem when I started out and it was always a bedding problem, as they work the set if they step on the edge of the trap and feel it move, they will dig it and flip it every time.

If your setting OFF the trail, then your not setting on location. Where ever you see coyote scat and tracks, that is where you want to set. Just like the other guys said bed your trap solid and make sure you keep your baits and lures away from your traps so your traps won't smell like your baits and lures. If they roll your set, you might have your smell to close to the surface of the ground, you want them to dig for the smell.

I'm sure your on location. having the trap bedding right is one I still think to much lure. A whitetail will go a long way to smell something.you can tell when the trap is tripped with no hair in it an its at the end of the chain no signs of struggle moist likely deer. set out a trail camera they are a mager learning tool.

Don't set too close to the carcass piles with your footholds, you'll catch stuff ya don't wanna catch... set the trails leading to and from them..

If you can find it, Mountain man beaver lure, the best. Carmen's is good too. Peeled sapling makes good bait. Muskrat lures sometimes have appeal to beavers too. I had to trap beavers early one year due to them tripping my rat traps. I had lure with sweet flag and the beaver loved it.
