Ok so I am a predator trapper by trade but I always end up setting a couple beaver traps for bait. When I skin them, I end up getting all kind of blood on the fur which means I have to wash it off. This provides for a really wet pelt and well you know. How do yall keep the blood off when you are skinning a beaver? For the first time in a long time I plan on taking a few days in Feb. to hit beaver hard and would like to solve this problem once and for all.

124 what I do when I catch a beaver I lay it on the concrete floor and leave it for 24 to 48 hrs. that lets the blood clot where it does not bleed as much hope this helps

cut off its tail and hang it by its front foot and let it bleed out and wad up a paper towel and put it on the bleeding while skinning

All that helps, but missing the problems areas to begin with is a good start. The carotid artery that runs up the underside of the jaw to the neck is the usual culprit. Hit it and you've got a mess. Miss it, and I'm pretty much blood free. These arteries are BIG, and easy to miss if you're careful.

I do like Paul,I let the blood clod up. Beaver don't spoil very fast,in fact,I believe they are the slowest of any animal to spoil.

I just don't like or have room for a pile of beaver on the floor of the shed. But yep, beaver are about the only animal I trust skinning "old".

I can't skin a coyote without blood, they are the bloodiest creatures. Beaver I skin blood free, just watch the veins, they are as big as a pencil. A little care you should be fine.
