I have a coon skin in freezer(and no it doesn't hurt to freeze)covered in blood. haven't fleshed yet. Whats good way to get blood out of pelt? Wash like a coyote skin? Anybody got any advise?

Wash the little coonie before you skin it. Not hot and not too soapy. Dry it with a gunny sack and skin in. Fling the hide to get any more water out. Board it after you get the hair dry.

I usually get the hose out when I get back to the house, put it on "shower" setting, spray em all out, hang to dry (overnight usually) then skin the next day... Just what I do...

Since the coon has already been skinned. When you thaw it out get the blood dried to where it is totally dry and simply comb it out using a curry comb.

ooops....I didnt catch the part about it being skinned. Do not wash out the oils that make the fur shine. I got dinged by a buyer for shampooing coon. He could tell.

Krank, I wonder if a guy could mist the fur with baby oil to give it that shine back?

If I'd knew then what I know now then I would have rubbed fat on the inspection window. Some guys do that routinely. Just a greasy hand will do it.

Along the same lines I've got two hanging up drying now and my plan was skin this am. Wash em, hang em, board em tonight. Now I'm looking and the bellies are still wet. I've got a fan on them now. Should I stick a board in them to just spread them open for the time being and let the air circulate? What's the best way to handle that, or the best way to keep it from being a future problem? Last year I froze then scraped but I'm trying to keep ahead of it this year.
