Thank you. I didn't put up any last year and I clean scraped the first two until it dawned on me that they didn't look right

Rats and mink both. Leave the saddle on. Like John said just push the fat from under the saddle.

Muskrats: keep the saddle or scrape clean? I wish I could find an old washing machine hand crank ringer that was adjustable. I don't know what happened to the one we had when I was a kid. We ran thousands of muskrats through it with the fur out. A handful of fat and meat pop out and it is ready to stretch. If anyone has one, give it a try. Takes a few seconds. Of course, only takes a few seconds with your scraping knife, also. I leave the saddle, too, but have never noticed a difference in the price of those that have saddle scraped off.

Lehman's has the ringer for $200.

Why don't you buy it and loan it to me during Deceember, January and Feb??

Haha! So long as you buy my mink at $50 a piece... Lol! Maybe 50 on your big prime cats and dark otter! Everything else goes in the junk pile and you leave it there when you leave! haha I looked at the ad and it would not be worth 200 even with the washtub and a cute gal to crank it for me! But, ours cost 25 back in the 70's so probably the exact same wringer. Gas was a quarter and new cars cost 2500 with free undercoating! haha

OUCH! $50 on prime cats AND dark otter? I'd better quit while I'm ahead! Lol!
I used to have a deal with an auctioneer on buying traps. I paid a dollar a piece for them straight through. I got some good traps that way and I passed the savings on to people on here. He got divorced and moved away. You are in the right area to find an old wringer. Might want to check your neighbors junk pile. Might be one there!

It has to be adjustable and have rollers that are in good shape. It is not big deal but would be great to use for rats and maybe mink. The Lehman's wringer is tempting but hard to justify unless it comes with the tub and a cute gal in a gunny sack miniskirt. Mink market does not look too hot like the other critters. Save your whole ones if you want and I will pay you a tad over market price. Ihave two or three taxidermists who have asked me about mink. Good luck!
