Good stuff......I have posted stuff before and got ripped by others and welcomed the criticism. Otherwise, I still would be doing it. It always fascinates me what buyers like and don't like. Shroeder at Nafa just whacks the ears off his coon.....No biggie. I take coon and wash them in soap and water and pull out scads of blood and mud and grease and this ding me as damaged (I did a good job of drying fur and combing before I board it up) Go figger.....Then I got a tail with slippage at the tip and I rip the tail off rather than get dinged for slippage and that was OK....It just drives me nuts. By the way, my front coon legs are at least 1 1/2" long when I board. The whole front leg is trouble (3"?) and no front leg leaves those big holes.

The trouble with washing furs with soap is taking the oil out of the fur. This causes a loss of luster.Better just to rinse them out in cool water. It will get out enough of the blood and dirt without adding anything else.

I aint washing no more. That ticked me off. It must have been the loss of luster. Heck with the bloody head (Maybe a cold water rinse on bad ones) and degrease by scraping. It was high maintenance and a lot of trouble to dry them and then board before too late.

I hadn't even noticed it. I pull those out and skin down to the nice gleaming white bone. Then I let them dry and throw them in a box for trading at the big buckskinner rendezvous and primitive shoot. Last year I traded a shoebox full for a set of tomahawks I liked.

I dont get it, yall say you will cover your pelt with borax (which is a detergent booster) to clean blood, dirt and what not out of the fur, but you wont wash your fur in a bucket full of soapy water (Dawn) because it damages the fur. That dont make sense to me.
I will keep on doing what I do, and what I do is what I do.

I'd throw them in the washing machine if it was me & they was nasty enough. Whole. On the carcass. Then sit back and enjoy the sound. If it was me.
