Kaysinger was, imo, one of the Ozark features that should have been preserved. and Tebo creek was where a few of my ancesters were buried, in the new cementary they did not even keep the family together. Used to fish from Warsaw to Deepwater, had a lot of farmers that let me use their skiffs.

Dont get me started. Alot of neat things lost forever in that river channel and NOBODY was given consideration. Now lets save the catfish...An idiot would buy off on that...

Went to a funeral yesterday down at the lake. My trotline buddies were all talking about turning those nice white cat that they let loose that they caught. One of them said they knew some guys that were catching white cat one after the other below Truman dam at Warsaw. They were all nice 10 pounders and it was 2 am so they decided to keep them. They got checked walking back to the car. They were fined 250 bucks for each fish and they had about ten of them. WOW.

I haven't jugged on Truman since this went into effect. I hope the Blue Cats haven't become extinct.

Shooting fish. When I was a kid, them old timers took a .22 and popped big cats before they landed them. I don't think that's legal in MO. In my 1935 book by Heddon, Fishing for the Millions, they say you should always pop a big cat with a .22 and cut its barbs off with a pair of nippers. I tried shooting a big cat when I was a kid. I was on a creek bank fishing for bullhead and caught a ten pound channel on 6# line and bank was steep. When I fired, the concussion of the bullet broke the line. All us kids jumped down the bank and grabbed it. Same thing goes for gigging. Can you boat a fish with a gig that's on a line? I don't think you can shoot or gig catfish in impounded water. I think you can just gaff or net.

Be careful gaffing them big whites, I could tell about the one armed guy that taught me to catch cat fish just about where that dam is now. True or not, he claimed his hand was still holding the gaff when the fish swam away. Said he kinda lost track of things after that, but his partner fitted him with a tourniquet and got him to the hospital. Said his partner guessed 180#. I don't know how you could guess on a fish that big? what would you compare it to?

That's like them noodlers getting their arm wrenched in a big cat. If your buddy had shot the fish first then he would still have his arm. I raised the question "Is it legal?" but I don't think it is.

I think it's not. Like beaver, there is no hunting season on fish. I think you can still beat them with a base ball bat. if you call our grand parents old timers, old timers used to seine the creeks here with a team of horses and woven wire fencing. The current agent won't allow that.

U CAN shoot a beaver or otter in a trap though. That's a good question for an agent. I don't see why u couldn't kill it before boating it for safety reasons.

Can't see why you'd need to shoot a fish on a line, whether it be rod and reel or set lines. I and many others routinely catch many catfish 50 lbs and over on the river and never felt the need to shoot one. Maybe you fellas need to stick with panfish lol

What if you caught a world record and popped it with a .22? Disqualified? John-People do a lot of things out of ignorance just because somebody used to do it. As I said, that old book said to pop them with a .22. I see a lot of people packing guns in the summer, gonna kill a snake. Why? I see people popping turtles on the lake which is not cool. One day, I was going down the Current in a canoe and came upon a narrow with a local standing there. Scary looking dude with a shotgun. I could hear banjo music. As I passed him I said "Why the gun?". He said "Snakes". It gave me a shiver as I paddled away. No reason for that.

I know what you mean Mike. Had some fellas shooting Asian carp out of a boat with shotguns. I've seen videos of guys shooting them with bows, which is legal, but not firearms.

Speaking of Asian carp....they need to make one of those paddle wheel traps like they use in Alaska for salmon and run that non-stop up the river to get these Asian carp. Make a rule that all non-target get released.
