I need a favor...
We've been fighting the conservation department for several years over a new regulation that will make it illegal to keep 26" to 34" (7lb to 16lb) blue catfish caught on Truman, Lake of the Ozarks, and every river and stream that runs into them. Everyone's against it, except the catfish tournament people around St. Louis, but the MDC has pushed the law through anyway, and it's in the final stages. The only way to stop them now is if we get enough people to send emails.
Please help! This is so important for all the catfishermen and businesses in south central Missouri. Let me know if you send any so I can keep count.
All you have to do is copy and paste the following message, add your name and town, and email it. You can change the wording on the last part, add your own opinion, and even some cuss words if you like -- the first sentence is what really counts. THANKS!
----
TO: tom.draper@mdc.mo.gov SUBJECT: Blue Catfish Regulation
I am against the blue catfish regulation (3 CSR 10-6.510). There are plenty of blue catfish of all sizes in Truman and Lake of the Ozarks.

Thanks to everyone who have sent emails so far. It's easy to stand up for your rights, and hard to get them back after they've been taken away.
Did you notice the MDC gives the private and public cost as less than $500? Just the value in lost food for one family would be much greater than this, and the loss of supplies, bait, food, lodging sales will be astronomical. When a fisherman invests the effort, time and money to set 33 hooks, and has to throw back 75 to 80 percent of what he catches, he's not going to bother with that again. The number of out-of-state, once a year weekenders will drop to nothing. Many of the local families who depend on this food will be forced to break the law to survive. All of this is being done for political reasons, against the will of the people, and against the fact that there is such an abundant population of blue catfish they are stacking up along the channels and eating all they other fish. The present daily limit is 5 of any size. Even if there were no limit, there aren't enough cat fishermen to make a dent in the blue cat numbers.

Beautiful stuff. 'Course, back in '79 I was a wanna-be tournament bass pro and the thought that more water would be available to me made me SALIVATE.
Then I grew up. And as much as I love fishin' LOZ it still would be better if it was still just the Osage River. At least Bagnell Dam served a purpose.
