after you skin a skunk is there any thing you can do to deodorize it to where when you put it up in the freezer the rest of you fur doesn't come out smelling like a skunk?

I leave mine in vinegar overnight. But if you're sending it to NAFA, it might not be a good thing to do. Rinse and neutralize it in baking soda later, 1 oz per gallon of water, and then rinse again. Otherwise, just skin, flesh, and board it right away.

I've put them in the creek before a couple of days(it has to be cold)and the scent seems to dissipate. You could vacum seal them.Or you could do like Kim suggested and put up right away.

I've had to skin skunks and toss in the freezer, and it does stink up the whole freezer. I agree with John, vacuum seal them. But the trick is to have a scent-free bag, so maybe roll up in a walmart bag and squish out all the air, then put in another walmart bag and tie shut, trying not to let the first bag touch the outside of the second bag. Then put that bag in a vacuum seal bag.
If you don't have a sealer and don't want the expense of buying one, then buy a box of smaller sized "space bags" at walmart (about $10) and you can add more skunks to them as you get them.

Do as John and Kim have said. However it's been my experience that as you pull fur out and sell it the smell goes away pretty quickly. I've never seen a buyer dock someone for any fur that had a slight skunk odor when selling. It kinda comes with the territory. Lol

Like Troy,I've never seen a buyer dock because of the odor.If you notice when you dispatch a skunk that hasn't thrown it's scent, there really isn't any skunk odor lingering on it's pelt. That right there shows how the odor dissapates with a little time.
